I bought win 8 pro upgrade for £24.99 at the time i didn't know this would (invalidate my £150.00 win 7 ultimate 64/32 bit license witch i can use both simultaneously a few times I'm told? ........ )

but as far as i can tell i loose all that for this upgrade to "one license of 64 bit win 8", cos i run the upgrade adviser in 64 bit win 7 ultimate (guessing u do the adviser in xp or any 32 bit version of windows u just get win 8, not pro?

now if all options had been more openly advertised i wouldn't of bought this download and not just thought god this is a bargain and not a big rip off a license i already own

now I'm here with a useless upgrade i dont wont to use (plus not used yet)

need the full working one think it woz £50.00 ish ...... what are my options ?

Welcome to EightForums.

If want to use both OS's, you need two full license's.

To use Windows 7 & Windows 8 upgrade, you need to buy a full license of Windows 7 (Win XP/ Vista) to go with your upgrade.

If you can return the upgrade [purchase, do that and buy a windows 8 "System Builder" disk/license which is a full version that does not require or invalidate a previous Windows 7 install.

Or if you cannot return it and you have not actually used the license, you can sell it to a friend (But don't try to sell it anywhere on line, it won't end well)

Upgrade Legal terms are the same.

If you upgrade from No OS, you have No OS.

If you upgrade from Windows 7 (Win XP/ Vista), you have Windows 8.

I have never heard of an upgrade and you get to keep the old OS. Far as I know it's always been you pay a discounted price for the upgrade and lose your old license.

I thought I heard or read that if you don't want to keep Windows 8 you can downgrade to your old OS license. If that's true I guess you would lose out on the money you paid for the upgrade. Not sure how it works.

You are 100% correct. Upgrades to Windows (and most other software like Adobe anything) have /always/ nullified the previous license (unless you undo the upgrade).

Now it may have been physically possible to use the upgraded machine and reinstall using the old license, but it was /never/ "legal".
