Hi

I am running Win8 Enterprise Evaluation and I wish to go back to Win7, but the Win7 disk brings up errors.

I guess I need to format the HDD, so can anybody recommend a utility to boot from CD and format?

If you go to the hard drive manufacturers web site you should be able to find the utility your looking for.
EDIT: Is it your Windows 7 DVD that is giving you errors? If yes where did you get it and is it scratched or smudged?

I am assuming you are doing a fresh install of Windows 7, am I right ?
If so, Just put your Windows 7 DVD then boot from it, After clicking Install Now, the next screen will ask you either Upgrade or Custom, Click on Custom.
The next screen will show all your disk drives. Click on the Drive that you are going to install Windows 7, On the bottom, there is a button: "Drive Option(Advanced)", Click on it and "delete" that partition then Click "New", Windows Installation will create a brand new Partition then install your Windows 7.

NOTE: Don't forget before doing this, you have to enter the BIOS and set your first boot device to be CD/DVD.

No need to enter the BIOS, you use the one time boot menu.

Thanks for pointing it out. I rarely use the Laptop and yes some do have the Boot Menu and some Don't.
For example, My 5 year old Sony Vaio does not have Boot Menu Option.

That one time boot option is a nice feature. My two ASUS motherboards have it. The older M2N68 doesn't advertise it though. It's not listed on the post screen during boot up. You'd have to read the manual to find it and what key to access it. My M4N68 shows press F8 on the post screen. If you blink you'll miss it but it's listed as an option. I do my installs from thumb drives so its nice having that option and knowing on the next reboot it will switch back to the hard drive automatically and finish the install.
