I have got the window8 pro update to use on my laptop and I was wondering if there any major problems with the install and/or running the software.

Make sure you’re on the PC you want to upgrade. This must be a PC that is currently running Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP with Service Pack 3 (SP3), Windows 8 Release Preview, Windows 8 Consumer Preview, or Windows Developer Preview. (Windows 8 Setup checks that your PC meets all system requirements before it installs Windows 8.)

Have your product key handy. You can find it in your online order information, in the confirmation email for your purchase, or on the packaging. The product key will look something like this:
XXXXX- XXXXX- XXXXX- XXXXX- XXXXX

Make a backup of everything you want to keep. Save it somewhere you can get to it later, like an external drive or a DVD.

Always better to do a clean install.

What is the best way to do a clean install with the pro update as I have never done it before.

I have already made back ups of what I want to keep.

The MS Tool does not work correctly.
Would be worth making the ISO & burning to DVD.

I'm having a problem when trying to install. If I do it from the desktop it will get to 77% copying files then it will be stuck there for a while until a window pops up and says the files are corrupt. Clicking on that closes the setup. I restarted my computer and tried setup from boot. This time it skipped or checked off copying files until it moved on to getting files ready. Then that goes to 77% and gets stuck until another window pops up and the installation is canceled.
The thing is, I'm using the same disk I used to successfully install windows 8 on a different computer and that one had similar problems during setup but it worked when I tried the setup on boot. I am wondering why this is not working on my windows 7 laptop?

EDIT: I should probably mention that Im trying to dual boot so I'm installing on a different partition.

Welcome to EightForums, Redpanda9.

As you are using a Full Retail/OEM product to dual boot, return DVD to your Retailer for a replacement.

thanks. I'm not using an official disc from a retailer, I'm using a disk that I burned the iso onto. This disc successfully installed Windows 8 on a different laptop and I don't know why it won't work on this computer. The disc itself is not damaged in any obvious way, so that can't be it.

The MS Tool has no support for uEFI.
If using a USB Pendrive, the drive needs to be formated to FAT32 for uEFI support.
