Windows 7 to 8 upgrade hangs at Moving your settings: 97%

Hi.
I got a Windows 8 32-bit copy from MSDNAA and tried to do an in-place upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8 with it.
Everything was going fine and dandy (albeit slow) until it got stuck at "Moving your settings: 97%".
Left it running for half an hour but it did nothing, so I had to do a hard reboot. Fortunately it went back to Windows 7.
I tried to upgrade it again today and unsurprisingly, nothing changed.
I know I could try a fresh install but I have lots of programs and four user accounts that would make the upgrade more trouble than it's worth it.

You would be better off doing a clean install. Just do not format your hard drive during the install, and drag and drop your files and folders from the Windows.old folder that is created in C:/ during the install. All of your files will be there.
