Solved Recovery disk?

My sister just got a new windows 8 laptop but it came without a Windows 8 backup disk. I have always restored my operating systems using the windows disk so I am unfamiliar with the procedure for these machines that come without a backup disk. I tried to create a disk image but that came to 26gb!?, and unfortunately my sister doesn't have an external hard drive with which to store a file that size. Is there some way that I can obtain windows 8 install disk and reinstall the old fashioned way, should the need arise?

Hello Bluffermcgee, and welcome to Eight Forums.

What brand and model is the laptop?

We'll be happy to see if we can find the instructions from the manufacturer's site on how to create a set of recovery discs for it. :)

We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.

Thanks theog. So the recovery drive/system repair disc is used to repair a windows 8 install, and the Acer eRecovery is used for a clean reinstall? Does the Acer eRecovery program reside outside the windows partition, in which case it can still be run even if windows has been corrupted?
