    NX Mode

How can I determine if NX mode is supported by my AMI V4.1 BIOS?

I tried CoreInfo but when I run it the CMD window comes up but immediately disappears so I can't read it.

I have looked in my BIOS but cannot find any reference to NX. Does that mean it cannot be enabled by Windows 8?

Yes really, the fact the OP can find the NX setup in the bios as nothing to do with Windows 8, it's a BIOS setting not a OS setting, may be I was not clear in my reply, I will edit it . the oP just give us a BIOS name and version, I need to know the exact motherboard to help

on Intel it's Execute Disable bit ( XD ) so you have to look for that ... it's ARM CPU that use eXecute Never ( NX )

if I know what model of motherboard, I can explain exactly where to find the XD

Yeah, Windows 8 wants NX, but it is enabled (or not) only by a BIOS setting.

I know little about it but you may find better information by searching under DEP (data execution prevention).

I assume you meant "the fact the OP canNOT find the NX setup in the bios as nothing to do with Windows 8."
I didn't say it did, but as pointed out, if Windows 8 cannot set it to "ON" then the installation fails.

You asked for the motherboard model. It is:
    Micro-Star Int'l - G31TM-P21 (MS 7529)
Not that it matters, but the CPU is Intel E6300.

I look forward to hearing what you can find.

I see nothing about the setting in the downloadable manual for the board.

The e6300 CPU supports what Intel refers to as the Execute Disable Bit:

    ARK | Intel® Pentium® Processor E6300 (2M Cache, 2.80 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)

I'd expect it to be on by default, but it would be comforting to find a BIOS setting for it.

I was suprised to be able install Win8 on my ancient (7 year old) Dell Latitude D510 what with the PAE/NX/SSE2 requirement but the installer didn't hiccup on me, unlike when i tried to install the Consumer Preview on a desktop computer built in 2005. It wouldn't install no how, no way!

    Thanks MadHorseman.
So, once again Steve Gibson comes through for us.

After SecurAble reported NO for Hardware D.E.P. I read his instructions and had a better idea of what to look for in the BIOS.
I found "Execute Bit Support" under "CPU Feature". It was Disabled. I set it to Enabled and rebooted. I ran SecureAble again and it reported YES for Hardware D.E.P.

So this computer is capable of running Windows 8.
