Hi. Just recently I went from windows 7 up to win8 and it was all fine and dandy.

Yesterday however I got a "No boot manager found" error on start up. I had nothing of importance on the C drive so I went to do a full reinstall of win8 and I got a error "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the setup log files for more information"

I've tried deleting the partition and getting the windows to create the partition. I've tried making the partition on another machine using a dock and I still get the same error.

I know the drive is working fine because it shows straight up on other machines. Today I tried to do a windows 7 install and see if upgrading works. But I'm getting the same error.

Welcome to EightForum.

Do have a uEFI BIOS? If yes
As the new MOBO's now have a uEFI BIOS.
How to install Windows 64 bit on a uEFI BIOS:

Thanks for your help I'm installing win7 now so I can upgrade it to win8. I do have a few follow up questions if you don't mind though.

I've never heard of uEFI until now. From reading that link you sent me, it looks like uEFI achieves faster boot times then the standard bios in most cases. If that's the case then why isn't uEFI used more often? Especially when most people use a SSD as their boot device so the 2tb limit won't apply for at least another year now.

What causes this problem? I'm kinda worried there may be something wrong with my motherboard since it happens no matter which HDD I selected.

Are there any drawbacks to using GPT as opposed to MBR on a SSD?
