    0xc0000428 winload.exe error

I've been trying at it for a couple days now but nothing seems to be working!

My friend is trying to install Windows 8 pro 64bit over his Windows 7 32bit. I know you can't 'upgrade' so we went with the custom/clean install. We backed up any files he needed and used the Windows USB boot tool and loaded the iso file into a bootable usb. Went through the install process and about 10mins in, the PC restarts itself.

I then get an error saying...

    Recovery
Your PC needs to be repaired.
The digital signature for this file couldn't be verified.
    File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe
    Error code: 0xc0000428

It then gives you some options at the bottom to choose another OS or startup settings, but choosing those options just flickers the screen and does nothing. I've tried reinstalling and the same thing occurs. I've also tried other methods such as copying the bootmgr file from the USB onto the boot drive to replace the older bootmgr, but that didn't work either.

Any ideas??? I'm not sure I can get back it back W7 since everything on the HD is already wiped (don't care about the data obviously, just want to get Windows 8 to work...)

If you're getting that error, it would indicate your initial ISO used to create the USB was/is corrupt and not an actual good copy, or the file copy to USB failed at some point (if you're sure the Windows 8 ISO that you downloaded from Microsoft has the same MD5 sum and CRC hash as the file on Microsoft's servers).

Hmm I don't really see anything wrong with the iso or the creation of the bootable usb. I dl'ed the iso from dreamspark though, so I'm gonna try to re-download using the Windows 8 Setup file. After I finish downloading it, can I simply just boot the usb and install it again?

EDIT: Just tried to reinstall using the iso/usb created from the Windows 8 setup guide/program. Same error came up only difference was this time, before the computer restarted, there was a box that said "please remove the following drives and restart" and listed my usb.

ANything else the error could mean?

Can you verify the ISO you're downloading has the same hash values as the one from Microsoft?
