hi there I am pretty novice at all this computer stuff so ill start from the beginning

I bought this laptop in june, it has only one hard drive but it was split into two when I bought it

one part had all the windows stuff on and the other all my personal bits and bobs and programs I downloaded
I have spent quite about of money on some of these programmes such as siemens NX (cad) and dragon naturally speaking to name but a few

I was emailed an offer upgrade to windows 8 for £15 if your computer was bought after june

so I read it all sounded very straight forward and like I could just have everything go smoothly

it has upgraded but I cant link my drive D: to the drive C: where the new windows is so I have no programmes and no access to my documents also when I save documents it now saves to the C: drive and I cant for the life of me find out how to change the settings to the way it was when I bought it

could you please help me and if you could use small basic bite size steps would be much appreciated as reading other threads on this forum im lost by the third line :/

thanks very much

How did you install Windows 8?

It sounds like your hard drive was partitioned into a C and D logical drive. I'm assuming you upgraded your system to Windows 8 and did not simply install Windows 8 onto the system like it was new ("clean install").

Sometimes a new system will rearrange drive letters. Look to see what drives show up on your system: it's possible that it was changed to E: or something else.

If you can, reply with a screen shot from Windows Explorer showing our computer drives. Also if you could attach a screen shot from Disk Management that would tell u a lot.

hi it was via an upgrade download
printscreen.gif and yes when it said keep th only choice it gave me was "nothing" so I made sure it was all backed up on the other patition and on an external HDD but these are both still on windows 7

all the stuff that was on the other (D:) partition is still there but I have to go through my computer and get to that partition manually to get anything and none of the programs from it work , before it automatically saved and opened files to and from here and I want it to go back to that
thanks

If you go to C:\Users\(your user name)\ You'll see your Documents, Pictures, Videos etc folders. If you right click and go to properties, you'll see a location tab. You can then change the location to the folder on your other partition, say D:\Documents. Once you do that anything windows saves to one of those folders will be saved to the new location. You'll have to reinstall your programs to get them working again.

Got to one of the folders in your shoot000 folder. For example right click the Documents folder itself. You'll have to do it for each folder you want to move.

You'll likely have to reinstall your programs to get them working again.
