System builder DVD and upgrade key?

Okay...just a quick question.

I have a system builder DVD of Windows 8 Pro which I installed on my machine.
My partner's laptop has windows 7 Home Premium and I just bought the online upgrade for Windows 8 Pro but after going through the download and checking stage I got an error saying something went wrong and the image was corrupt.

I don't want to have to go through the whole download and checking stage again so I was wondering if I can use the system builder DVD on the laptop which currently has Windows 7 Home Premium and input the upgrade key?

Was just wondering if the disks are same but it's just the key that's different? Just wish I could download an ISO, would be much easier and quicker!

Thanks :D

Oh poop! I completely missed that option! lol
If I download the set up tool from my PC can I create it here and then just pop the disc in my partners laptop?

Thanks

I don't think you can download in already win 8 installed PC, you might get the message "This OS is not available in your Country" or something similar.

Ah ok, I think I'll have another try tomorrow. Really tired now as it's gone 3am here in the UK and I feel like throwing the laptop out over the balcony lol.

Cheers guys :)

If you received the order confirmation email from Microsoft, it includes a download link for the installer. (It's not obvious. For the US download, the message was "If you need to download Windows, write down your new product key and enter it here." The "here" is a link to a download manager.)

You can run that from anywhere. I ordered the upgrade using the Upgrade Assistant from a Win7 X64 PC, stopped the download, and did the download from the target PC, which was running the Windows 8 Enterprise evaluation version. It might have been simpler in the long run to re-install Win 7 X64 Pro on the target machine and do the whole schmeer from that, but I was stubborn.

Well it took me a whole day but I got there in the end. I had a new hard drive for the laptop so I cloned the original 250gb on to a 1TB drive. Booted up into Windows 7 and downloaded the Windows 8 set up tool again. This time it ran fine and downloaded successfully, I went through the option of creating media and now have the upgrade disk. Windows 8 is now up and running on the laptop.... and iam actually surprised that my partner has actually found Windows 8 easy to use, I was expecting to hear cry's of "where is the start menu" and "how do I do this" but so far not a peep. lol
