I just freshly installed windows 8 online. I went from windows XP to windows 8.

Well, the internet was working fine on my XP, but in 8, suddenly it cannot find any connection. I am using a wired connection. When I troubleshoot, it says the ethernet adapter is not working. How is this possible? It was just working on XP minutes ago. Surely I'm not the only one with this issue.

Sounds like you'll need to install drivers for your network controller (Ethernet adapter).

As you supply no information about your system, it's hard to tell you where to look.

how do I do this if I am not connected to the internet?? what do you need to know? the only thing I can think of is this Linksys ethernet CD I have which came with my network card I believe. I've tried to install it but it doesn't seem to be doing anything

ok this is weird, but i put in that CD for my adapter, ckick autorun.bat. Allow the publisher. Then under the 'isntall' panel, I click install. It then asks for a computer name and group name...I make something up, click Driver Install and NOTHING happens.

edit: and I tried to install it again, but it only gives me the option to uninstall as if it's already installed...restarted the computer and still no conectivity.

dont tell me i need to buy a new wireless card? this makes no sense. It works on windows XP like I said. I even installed a fresh partitian of XP and didnt even need to install the drivers and they still worked.

What the heck is wrong?

Get details of your ethernet adaptor find another computer google to see if you require drivers for win 8. I would say incompatible but may have updated drivers. If availabe borrow somones wirless gongle and see if you can access the internet to eliminate any issues.

We need to know what your network adapter is. That could be your PC's make and exact model number, if it's an appliance PC (or laptop). Your motherboard make and model, if it's not an appliance PC. Your network card, if it's a discrete add-in card. Your initial post didn't even mention whether it was wired or wireless.

How are you posting here? Do you have a USB flash drive that you could download drivers to and transfer to the Win8 system?

Solved.

I just used my motherboard's onboard ethernet plug instead. For whatever reason, my offboard network card drivers could not be installed I guess.

That's good.

I'm at a loss, though. Why did you bother posting here? You never gave any information that would allow anyone to offer any substantive help. Were you just hoping that some random response would give you a clue that might work?

(You may detect a little frustration in this post.)
