We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.

Did you make the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks?

You can order OEM Recovery disks from your OEM manufacturer's website.

I did this recently.

I used Acronis TI Home 2012 to make a full image backup of Win 8 from a SATA 80GB partition.
Connected the SSD, then restored the backup to it.
Booted and all worked perfectly.

I'm planning to do the same thing next week. Was your SATA HDD the same size as your 80GB partition or was the partition smaller than the physical HDD?

The reason I ask is that my current HDD is 1TB but the backup I did with Acronis TI of that HDD came out to 60GB, which I intend to copy to the SSD I sent for, which is 256GB.

Sorry, don't know if Acronis will allow you to "restore" a larger partition to a smaller space -- but I use Macrium Reflect and I know it won't.

I was faced with a similar situation, so what I did was first, migrated data files OUT of the OS partition to shrink it down to a size that would easily fit on the much-smaller SSD.

Then, I did an image backup using Macrium Reflect to an external drive (you could do the same with Acronis).

Then, I swapped the HDD and the SSD -- but booted from the MR WinPE Boot CD.

Then, I plugged in the external drive containing the backup -- and "restored" the Win7 OS image to the SSD -- and rebooted.

When the PC came up, everything was OK.

I'm having this same problem too. I don't know what else to do. I have an HP laptop which came with Windows 8 Pro pre installed.

I want to put in a brand new SSD that I purchased.

How do I perform a Clean Install of Windows 8 Pro on this new SSD. More to the point where can I find a legitimate download of Windows 8 Pro iso so I can burn a disk and perform the install without hassle.

Have you tried simply cloning the drive?

Win8 may have some safeguard against it, but give it a shot.

I don't want to clone the drive. That's not the same as doing a clean install.

I just want to put the SSD into this laptop. Then I want to do a clean install of Windows 8 and use the license that came with my laptop to begin with.

Without having to mess around with the Windows Registry (like I've seen some random guides on the internet refer to)

You will need to order the HP Recovery DVD's.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03502680.pdf

Using HP Recovery media to recover

You can use HP Recovery media to recover the original system. This method can be used if your
system does not have an HP Recovery partition or if the hard drive is not working properly.
1. If possible, back up all personal files.
2. Insert the first HP Recovery disc you created into the optical drive on your computer or into an
optional external optical drive, and then restart the computer.

HP/Compaq said:
? If the HP Recovery media do not work, you can obtain recovery media for your system from the
HP website. For U.S. support, go to Contact HP / Customer Service | HP® Official Site. For worldwide support, go
to Contact HP Worldwide | HP® Official Site.

And that would require me to spend even MORE money despite the fact that I've already spent plenty of money buying the laptop, the SSD, and will be spending more for Microsoft Office and Norton Internet Security.

Absolutely ridiculous. Thankfully it looks like the HP Representative I'm speaking with is going to credit my account and allow me to place an order for it so it will be free overall.

I installed an image that was on a 500GB HDD onto a 250GB SSD using Acronis TI 2013 with Plus Pack without any hassles. In my case, it was simply a Disk change on the same desktop, so there was no chance of driver conflicts. If this is a possibility, Acronis TI 2013 with the Plus Pack will most likely be needed (the process needs Win PE)
