What does Boot to UEFI mean?

I have ordered a new MB + CPU + RAM + SSD on which I want to install Win 8. I then will retire my 6 years old C2D with Win 7.

My old ASUS board had an old style BIOS. I understand new boards have a newer type BIOS called UEFI.

I have read posts where people talked about Booting to UEFI first. To be honest, I did not understand what they were talking about.

Could help me get a rough understanding of what UEFI does? What UEFI settings should I use to install Win 8?

The board I am getting is a Gigabyte B75M-D3H.

Generally speaking you can use UEFi if you wish, but it may be easier to use BIOS compatibility mode.

Your computer should have a graphical configuration menu, in which you can use a mouse where older computers only work with keyboards. They're may be a setting to enable UEFI/EFI.

After that just stick the installation DVD in the drive and boot from it. If it does UEFI then it works and if it does BIOS then it doesn't. Either way you can install fine, just you may need to delete all of the partitions on the drive.
The only real difference is that UEFI should make restarting a little bit faster.
