Just tried the upgrade assistant and even thought is initally said mose of my apps were compatible when I select the option to keep apps it come up the the message "Your migration choise isn't compatible with the offers available in your country/region. Please go back and try again after changing what you chose to keep". I am in the UK. Why can I not keep my installed apps when I read that upgrading from any win7 installation should allow you to keep apps?

Any ideas? Could I just change my country/region before installing?

Thanks

If you're installed to EN-GB, for example, but you purchased EN-US, you'll get that warning. If you change everything in your OS to EN-US and try again (assuming that's what you're using), it *should* work. Best to make a backup beforehand though, just to be safe. Upgrades are inherently dangerous even when there aren't any issues that should hold them back.

In the Region and Language setting I have English (United Kingdom) and under location I have United Kingdom set and I am downloading in the UK. Is there anywhere else I would need to make sure I am set to UK?

Thanks

The only other issue I can think of is my enterprise version is activated from my works KMS server but I want to purchase this upgrade myself. As I am currently activated from a kms server will this cause a problem?

Is there any reason MS would not allow you to keep apps for an enterprise version in the UK as some strange licencing issue?

Are you upgrading from W7 Enterprise > W8 Enterprise? The only upgrade paths from Windows 7 to any version of Windows 8 Enterprise is Win7 Professional or Enterprise. If you have Win7 Ultimate or Home and want to upgrade to Enterprise, you can't. Assuming you are upgrading from Win7 Enterprise, it ... should work.

The only option the upgrade assistant gives me is to upgrade to win 8 pro with the keep files (not apps) option so this would be a win7 enterprise to win 8 pro upgrade. I would be happy with win 8 pro or enterprise if I could aoid having to reinstall all my apps. I am sure this should be possible. I read on another forum that moving user profiles to second (non OS) hard disks could cause problems. I have not done this though beyond moving my downloads folder to a second disk. I have since moved it back to C but this did not fix the problem.

The only other question is where did the Enterprise ISO come from? Assuming it's not the trial version available on the 'net and from your VL or MSDN site, it should work. If it's a trial, it will complain - no shipping Windows 8 DVDs have Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro, and Enterprise on them, so I'm curious as to where it came from.

I dont have any win8 iso or installation media at all. I have a full legal installation of win 7 enterprise from my emplyer. All i am doing is running the ms upgrade assistant to see what version it says i should download and install. That asks me what i want to kep and when i select i wish to keep my app it reports that my migration choice is not compatible etc..... is this suggesting that i can only upgrade to win 8 enterprise and that is not avaliable yet?

No, Windows 8 Enterprise upgrades can only be done from the Windows 8 Enterprise ISO itself - this makes sense now. The upgrade advisor can only upgrade you to retail copies of Windows, Windows 8 or Windows 8 Professional. The Enterprise ISO has the upgrade advisor on it, hence my confusion :). If you can get a Win8 Enterprise ISO from your IT staff (or if you have a TechNet or MSDN subscription, you can get it from there too), you can upgrade your installation. You can't do that with the upgrade advisor :).

Somehow I missed that part in your first post!!!!!! My apologies for dragging this out unnecessarily!
