Brand new windows 8 upgrade install live tiles do nothing

I just upgraded my alienware to windows 8 via the online download and none of the live tiles do anything I click them and it just kicks me back out to the metro screen with all the tiles. None of them work at all? Can anyone help

UPDATE********** Uninstalling AVAST ANTI Virus completely fixed this problem

Thanks for the info, do I need to have windows 8 on a disk? I got mine from downloading it from microsoft for 40 dollars.

Yes, you need the disc, if you haven't created one, find the receipt send by the Store(email), click the link in that email to download and choose the option "create media to install latter"(I think 2nd option), you can burn the .iso file.

I had the exact same problem as you. Within a day all the metro apps just kicked me out to the start screen. Did a fresh install and everything is working fine so far.

Clean install is the way to go. I tried the upgrade/install route and had issues (sluggish performance and Media Center failed to work properly).

    This is my living room PC with Media Center. Not a gamer.
this is happening to a lot of people, it appears that 3rd party anti-virus programs are the biggest culprit.

I might delete my avast anti-virus all together, the built-in anti-virus in windows 8 is really good, why run both.

Many third party anti-virus seem not to work on WIN 8. I installed Mcafee enterprise which works great on Win 7 Ultimate, and it simply would not run. I eventually went with a clean install of Win 8 and use windows defender for now.
