Solved Have a problem after upgrade the system to Win8 Pro from Win7 Home Pre

I'll tag along just in case someone actually has a fix for that. Its happened to me once or twice and the only way I could ever fix it was by reinstalling Windows 8 from scratch, AKA a clean install.

I had the same issue. Could not even search or pull up a restore. I did a Refresh. Wiped out some programs but it will tell you what it deleted. Took over 4 hours to refresh and reinstall my programs. So far so good. Be sure to do a new restore point as all others will delete. Sad but true.

Hi everyone!

Well it turns out I have the same problem looks like many are having it as well reading other forums seems the only solution is a clean install.

Just a question did you update the drivers from Dell at all I haven't tried that as yet but I wont be bother with it if you have.

Now just need to work out how the hell I can do that.

I uninstalled avast anti virus and this problem was solved.
Thanks.

Interesting I just did the same but it didn't help.

Was that before or after the upgrade.

No not a Dell, its the PC listed in My System Specs in my profile. For me its usually just one or two Apps. One day they are working and then they won't launch. Slacker Radio was the first one to glitch. It's been working fine though since the last clean install, I'm listening to it now. Yesterday I tried to install The Weather Network App and it wouldn't work right out of the box. Installed OK but won't launch. It goes full screen for an instant and just closes again. That was what made me post to this thread. The Bing Weather App works just fine. I'm using MSE/Defender as my Antivirus. I've tried the Refresh and Repair boot options but that didn't fix the problem, in a way it just made things worse so I started over with a clean install.

I'm not running Avast but I did try turning off the Windows Firewall. The Weather Network App still won't work for me but I am glad you got all your apps to work. :thumb: I guess I should mention I'm still running the Release Preview, not the final release.

Perhaps this is why, I installed the final versions get from microsoft during the purchase.

You perform a clean installation, it may well work.

It looks to be a problem with all versions. There are several threads with the same or similar problem after upgrading to the final release. I won't be buying the current upgrade version offered for 40$. I don't plan on switching from Windows 7 to Windows 8 on any of my current PC's. When the Release Preview times out I'll just go back to Windows 7 on this PC. I boot up into Windows 7 more than I do 8 anyway. I'll probably go Windows 8 on my next build.
