Transferring Windows 8 Upgrade from HDD to SSD

Hello Guys.

Recently I've just got my hands on the new Windows 8 Pro for 40$ online and I've used it already to overwrite the Windows Vista 64bit I have on my HDD so that I can use Windows 8. Currently it's installed in the HDD. The only downside is I can't burn the Windows 8 Pro into a CD should I have to reboot, as it requires a 40$ payment on paypal on the spot.

However I've got an order for a new SSD which I'm planning to transfer my OS boot up from the HDD to the SSD, to enhance the computer's speed in read/write/bootup processes. Given that I've used the Windows 8 Pro upgrade already on my current HDD with thte code, how can I transfer this Win8Pro into my SSD into the future? I'm guessing it may involve me downloading another free Windows Vista/XP/7 in order to perform the upgrade since it's a windows upgrade.

If it's not clear please ask me, thanks. I'm new to these forums, and I'd appreciate all the help I can possibly get!

Josh.

Welcome to Eight Forums Josh.

When you download the Windows 8 Pro upgrade you have three choices, 1) install it, 2) burn to DVD/USB, 3) Save as an ISO file.
You should save as an ISO file which can be burned to DVD/USB. Then you still have the ISO file in case you loose the DVD/USB or they become corrupt.

On the email confirming your purchase and giving you the Key, it has a link if you need to download another ISO file, it mentions that you need to input the key that you have.
If you need to download Windows, write down your new product key and enter it here.
Click on the 'here' it will take you to the download.

First, just to clarify, you're only allowed to have one OS installed on any computer for the one Windows 8 Pro upgrade. One key for one installation.
You also must have a qualifying previous version of XP, Vista or Win7. The old Windows version can't be used while the Windows 8 Pro upgrade is in use.

When you get your SSD, first disconnect the hard drive or the SSD OS may not boot after the hard drive OS is removed. Then use the installation DVD/USB that you have and install it to the bare SSD, leave the SSD as 'unallocated' space, which means don't format the SSD, Windows installation will make all of the correct alignments during the installation.

When the SSD OS is running, the install is good, delete the copy of Windows 8 Pro from the hard drive.
