Windows 8 install error

when I try and upgrade from windows 7, it attempts to upgrade, then says we couldn't install windows 8, we have set your computer back to the way it was. Does anyone know how to fix this??

It is a 2010 hp touchsmart 600-1215xt. It has 6 gig ram. 1terabite hard drive and intel i5 processor. I ran through the installation helper, and uninstalled what it told me to. Them it ran the installation, finished, and said it needed to restart. It restarted, and showed the blue Microsoft logo, then came up with the error message.

Try a clean install.

Then boot from that to completely wipe your disk and reformat, make sure you have your key for when you start the installation. If you have a Windows Live account use that. Make sure you feel comfortable doing this and have anything you need backed up, this worked for me, I hope it works for you.
