Hey everybody!

I hope I don't sound too simple on here, but I just upgrades my Samsung 900x3a from win 7 to win 8 this afternoon, it's all gone good so far, but all the Fn keys don't work anymore (except the sound keys) so I have no way to adjust the settings, power settings, display brightness ( I know I can so that on the side) or the keyboard illumination, I can't even use the hotkey to switch off my WiFi.

I've trawled the Samsung website and everything but it has turned up nothing. I was wondering if anybody has this problem and found a way to rectify this.

As Samsung has now brought out an updated Series 9 laptop with Win 8 bundled would make me believe that it would have the Fn keys available, but I aint sure on that...

Any hep would be very much appreciated!

The same happened to me with a Sony Vaio. I did a clean install. I looked everywhere for the drivers I need, and it seems I would need to install three or four different drivers including one that won't work on a Windows 8 system. I was hoping someone would find a hotfix or a fast way around this. But I can't find anything.

I also installed Windows 8 on an old vista system, it was an Acer Laptop, and it lost no functions whatsoever, it actually worked much better. If you are running an expensive windows 7, and there is nothing wrong with it, I would stay with it. If you are running an older PC that you won't worry about too much if things go wrong, install windows 8.

The function isn't built-in to Windows. You need to install some Samsung software:

Support - Notebooks NP900X3A | Samsung Laptops

The particular package is Easy Display Manager. They show no Windows 8 version, but maybe the Windows 7 version will work.

First step is to check your BIOS Settings, when I upgraded to Windows 8 on my Dell my function keys did not work because they were set to Multimedia keys and I didn't have the software for it, check around and see if there is anything on there, to access your BIOS hit F2 on startup.

Secondly, Try downloading the SW Update Software: http://orcaservice.samsungmobile.com/SWUpdate.aspx
This will give you access to install Driver Software.

Hope this helps!

Thans guys, bobkn - yeah i guessed it was a samsung specific thing but they are useless on their website! I did see somewhere on their website saying that the Win8 stuff is not ready for the NP900x3a untill Nov 30th, but the win8 software update said they were available...

There is a BIOS update available for my laptop (or so the samsung SW updater says). I have tried to install it but it always says "unable to complete (-10)" or similar, even the touchpad driver isnt instaling... I guess i'll have to cope untill areoun the 30th then do a full clean install? :-s

Well, damn.

I hope my luck holds with 8. So far, everything has worked for me, either with Windows 7 drivers, or with drivers already released with official Win8 support.

That's on a desktop PC. I think I'll keep 7 on my old (2008) laptop for a while.

well it's been annoying - but tolerable! and now I've just installed the bios version 8 (the version 7 never installed) I have gained the function of all my fn keys except the keyboard illumination (tho I can modify it in the easy display - but annoyin but it can be modified!) and the power selector fn key - which I didn't really use much before anyway...

so not all too bad now! still a bit annoying! cheers for the help!
