Solved Indefinite boot: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 to Windows 8 Pro x64

Hello.

I am attempting to upgrade install Windows 8 Pro using the upgrade assistant available from Microsoft.
The methods I have tried have been mostly standard, and also using a USB key, with all my files/settings, etc, retained.

It seems to install fine without a hiccup but when it restarts to boot in to Windows 8, I am just left with the boot screen and its little circle rotating thing continuing to animate indefinitely. The only noteworthy thing I notice while this is happening is that USB terminates off after a short time, leaving my USB devices offline.

Upon booting back in to Windows 7, I am greeted with the "We were unable to install," message, but I am forcing the system to shut down which is likely invoking this.

Any insight? I really want to install with all of my files, settings and applications maintained.

Edit: Forget about it. I did a clean install without any issue.
