hello,

I'm dustin and i'm new to the forums. I'm hoping you guys and help me with the this weird problem. So i have installed windows 8 RTM on my netbook. Although it's max resolution is 1020x600, editing Display1_DownScalingSupported from 0 to 1 doesn't seem to work. it would show the boot screen with that blue windows logo and the spinning thing on the bottom of it, but after that, black screen. Even though it's black, it seems that windows 8 is booted because i can press the space button and can hear windows giving me an error sound, but the display isn't working. the only way to fix this is to reinstall windows 7 then reinstall windows 8. I've tried it again and it gave me the same results. So i installed windows 7 and then 8 again without messing with the reg edit settings. Is there any way i can use the apps? That's all i need. Thank you

  • What happens when you press Windows-key + P ? Can you switch screen ?
  • What happens when you press Ctrl + Alt + Del ? Can you logoff and then login ?

You know the difference when your screen is displaying black from your screen is just not working right? You can tell their is no light/brightness into the screen, that's how mine is. The screen just turns pitch black after the system boots after editing the registry. Luckily i created a restore point so now i don't need to go thru the reinstalling windows 7 then 8 again.-- So i'm open for more ideas

Ctrl + Alt + Del shows nothing ? Strange ...

You know what Windows-key + P does ? (Check it in Windows 7)
Try: Windows-key + P, then arrow-key right and "enter".

Or do you have a HDMI display connected and display not switched on ?

There was no need reinstall your computer just because of this you could have done the following:

Boot with a repair or Windows 8 disc (if you don't have any of those you can make a repair disc on another Windows 8 machine that is the same system type as yours (32 or 64 bits) by going to modern UI and typing recdisc + Enter) Than you boot your computer with that disc and go to -> Advanced -> See Advanced Repair Options -> Troubleshoot -> Advanced Options -> Startup Settings -> Restart -> Safe mode
Than open regestry and revert the options you did before..

P.S: May be necessary to set up your BIOS to boot from CD|DVD instead of HD.
