As per title.
Dual boot, 8 & 7, with 7 on d. Now ready to dump 7 completely, but 7 partition will not format.
Tried going from install disk, no joy.

Thoughts...???

Thanks.

Hello Rickkins. Forgive me as I can only suggest a safer way to go IMO. If one would like to use multiple Operating Systems, and that is a fine idea, if it is affordable, I would suggest installing each OS on an individual HDD. Preferably a docking system for hot swapping drives... that way the MBR is less likely to be corrupted than dual booting. I would use the Bios to choose which drive to boot first.
Just a suggestion. Good Luck. I have used this plan in the past when so many systems were in play like Windows 2000, or Windows 98 and XP and Vista etc... Sorry I could not help with dual boot. Whenever I needed to edit a difficult partition, I would boot using GParted and try using what was available on the dvd.

If boot files are on d: Windows would not let you format the drive.
To see if d: is mapped to active partition and holds boot files use Windows Disk Management.
Property "system" - where boot files are, "boot" is the drive where current OS resides.
