    Hi The Stig,
Welcome to the forums, go to device manager and see whether any exclamation mark in DVD drive, if there is , try updating the driver for it.

    Welcome to the forums
I remember, that i had some problems with my ASUS DRW-24B3ST dvd drive. so, for my first question is: Does your BIOS recorgnise it?

if so, the probmlem is with windows updates. if not, check the cbles.

This is usually caused by false incompatible drivers. i would suggest to download the newest ones either form the manufacturer's web site, or from the device manager. Also check the updates, they really do the trick sometimes .

Could you tell me the results (and also the dvd drive model)

Is this an external or internal CD/DVD drive?

Also, You could also try going to 'devices' under the metro control panel (square tile with large gear) and seeing if the CD drive is listed. If not, choose to search for devices.

I'm using a Dell 535s desktop. I just installed Windows 8 Developer Preview on it. It works perfectly fine but no DVD-Drive is detected, even though I installed the Operating System from the DVD itself. I called up Dell, and they said that they have the freewares but they won't work until d Drive is detected.

I'm having the same problem too - the thing is when I first installed the Consumer Preview I installed Office from a DVD, but since then the drive has disappeared in Win 8. In Windows 7 the CD/DVD drive appears as ATAPI iHAS122 8 ATA device - I've tried searching for drivers but can't seem to find what I need. Can anyone help?
