Can't get maximum resolution in W8 RP

Title says it all. I've tried using 7 drivers, and XP drivers. The monitor is an HPvs17 flat panel monitor. The maximum resolution is 1280x1024 at 60Hz, and when I set it to that, it says out of range. Resetting the monitor to factory defaults doesn't work, and neither does using auto correct feature on the monitor.

    Hello 714,

How is the monitor connected, and do you have the latest Windows 8 video drivers installed?

Have the latest drivers, and I'll get connection in a second, hold on.

Just found the specs for the HPvs17 monitor at the link below from HP.

Product Specifications HP vs17 17 inch LCD Monitor - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

What is it letting you set it to currently?

    It's letting me set it to 1024x768 @ 64Hz

Hmm, if you use "Advanced Settings" (step 7 below) in the "Screen Resolution" window does it have any other size available?

Are you using any type of video adaptor?

Monitor goes black with a box saying out of range, set to 1280x1024 @60Hz. Then it reverts to 1024x768 @64Hz. I might note, on the XP of the dual boot, it gets full resolution.

It looks like an older model (2005).

I hope it doesn't mean 16bit in max resolution color mode but 32bit (or 24) then it should work.
Win8 removed 16bit from the list but I guess that's not the issue here.

Did the max res worked on Win7? (definitely should have work on XP). Maybe a specific ICC/ICM color profile is needed.

Try installing the recommended color (ICM) profile (if it's missing). You can find those on the CD or HP website. See user manual for more details:

It's just odd that 1024x768 works but the higher one not.

    Good luck

It's 32 bit I believe, and I did find it weird that max worked in 7, but not 8. When I got 7 on that PC, it started at 1024x768 working, and 1280x1024 not, but I went to Windows Update and there was an update. I installed it, rebooted, and max resolution worked. There isn't an update in Windows Update for the monitor in 8.

Also, ever since 8 installed, XP has been asking for chkdsk on boot, and I've run it twice. How can I get it to stop?

It sounds like it may have been the .inf file for the monitor that was installed that allowed the correct screen resolution in Windows 7.

I'm not sure if this will even run in Windows 8, but you might see if you may be able to run the sp310161.exe file from HP below that will add the .inf file for your monitor. You may need to use compatibility mode on the sp310161.exe file for it to install properly though since it was designed for XP and not Windows 8.

That question would be best to create a new thread to ask about for better help with since it's a different topic than the original one here.
