Hi everyone. I have installed Windows 8 onto my Inspiron 1501 notebook. The installation was good, but when I ran the digital adivsor for Media Center I receive an error message saying the display driver has to be updated. I looked in the device manager and the it is the microsoft basic display adapter. I cannot find a driver for the adapter. Is there a driver? I never heard of a microsoft basic display adapter. Any suggestions will be welcomed. deanie44

That laptop was only supported up until Vista, and the chipset it runs on (AMD IGP Xpress 1150) also only has drivers available for Vista and XP. You can try the Vista drivers, but I'm not sure how well they'll work:

Vista 32bit
Vista 64bit

What I did was open my device manager (Windows button + E to open explorer window, right click on "Computer", go to "Manage", then go to Device Manager and open "Display adapters")
I then right clicked "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter", and chose to update from my software already on my computer. I had already installed ATI and AMD drivers, so I just opened C:/ATI and let it do the rest. Working perfectly now.

Hi,

I'm running windows 8 and can't get the driver to install. Can you tell me exactly what driver you used? It always reverts back to microsoft basic display adapter.

Thanks in advance.

There is NO ATI/AMD driver that will work on Win8 for your video chip. The "basic adapter" is the only one that will work.
