Solved Desktop apps not starting on Monitor 2 when connected to TV

Hello guys,
I have recently downloaded and installed the Win8 RP x64 in VirtualBox at no avail (insufficient resources), so I am trying the native installation now. I have successfully installed the win8 RP x64 on my external USB HDD Seagate GoFlex Desk (2TB) in its own partition with the help of ImageX from the Windows AIK, and after some fiddling it booted too (it certainly does not boot from the USB3.0 port, probably thanks to missing drivers).

Now, my problem is that, when I'm at the Desktop (not Metro/start screen/Apps/...), I noticed that all apllications start, but don't appear onscreen. This is partly due to my setup, which consists of a laptop (broken screen) connected to a 1080p TV per HDMI. I have by now managed to get Win8 to display all its stuff on the TV by setting the output per the menu on the right ->Devices -> 2nd screen -> 2nd screen only. I have also switched through the screens with the Fn keys (used for projectors, beamers etc) at no avail.
Still, Win8 thinks that screen 1 is still connected and starts my desktop applications there, which is kind of annoying, considering it should have been disabled.

Here's my set-up:
ASUS N73SV (broken screen) plugged per HDMI 1.4 to HDTV
Intel i5 2410m (2nd Gen)
4GB RAM
Intel HD 3000 (inside Intel i5) & NVidia 540M (which device is being used... unknown as control panel inaccessible)
64GB SSD (internal, Win7 Ult, doubt it is recognized, at least never saw it)
SeaGate GoFlex FreeAgent Desk 2TB + USB3.0 Dock (olugged into USB 2.0, Win8 installed on it)

Any help is appreciated. I can supply screenshots and the like if requested.

Does metro and/or the task bar show up on monitor 2?

Have you selected monitor 2 to be the "Main display"?

Yes Metro and Desktop and all the menus on the screen borders work fine, it's just the desktop applications that do not want to display.

I can not access the display settings in order to switch the main display, as it does no show on the desktop. I could access the Windows 8 settings though, although no control panel there.
I could only set the display output to "2nd screen only", which would be my TV.

Oh, can you select "Duplicate" rather than "Extend" for the dual monitor mode? That way there really is just one screen and it won't matter which one is not working.

You can get off screen apps to your one usable display on the desktop. If you can see the task bar, hover the mouse over the icon for the off screen control panel item, wait for the preview popup, right click the popup and select "move" (If move is disabled, click "Restore" then do it again and click "Move"). Now press an arrow key (any one, just once) then without clicking anything move your mouse around till the program moves over to the visible display.

The "Duplicate" mode did not work for me, as Windows still opened off-Screen.

The tip with moving the apps back into the Screen worked like a charm though.

Thanks for the help,

EDIT: Aww, no way to move UAC modal Screens to second Screen? Guess I have to use arrow keys and enter then...

Ah yeah, if the apps had been opened in an area that is now off screen, then they generally open in the same location even when the screen layouts are changed :/

I have this problem all the time with my HTPC. I'll move explorer over to the TV and then forget to move it back before turning switching it back to the cable, then next time I try to bring explorer up on the local monitor it's still on the TV and I have to use that trick to get it back into view...

I forgot it too with my media Players, when my Laptop Screen was still working. Luckily my TV is always connected within one handsweep, hehe.

AndI now set my TV to my main Screen now. Everything is working fine. Again, thanks for the help.
