Hello..

I Run Windows 7 as my host OS on my Laptop for the past 2 years.. And about a week ago, i realized that my resolution changed from 1366x 768 px to 1156x 864 px. Because of this, my Virtualbox also can not run in Full Screen mode on 1366 x 568px. Any help?

Additional Details: My Maximum resolution now is 1366x 768 Pixels.

Thank You
Shon John Xander (djshonrock)

Hi Shon,

This looks familiar (the same problem from a while back right?)

If you have an older driver:
Look for newer drivers on the intel's site: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/
You need to know the full name of your graphics card/chipset.

Can you see and post your resolution from these windows (here example 1024x768):
resolutions.png

There should be a solution for that problem.

I Run Windows 7 as my host OS on my Laptop for the past 2 years.. And about a week ago, i realized that my resolution changed from 1366x 768 px to 1156x 864 px...

I hope you use the same monitor from when it was 1366x768.

Ok,

There are some things you can check:

* Check for updated drivers. (you have a Intel graphics right?)
-newer drivers may fix some problems.

* Is there a 1366x768 or higher on the list?
-if not 1156x 864 is maximum.

* Have you changed the monitor?
-different monitor gives different max resolution.

Have a look in your Device Manager (here's example):
drivers.png
Look for that (whatever your card is named) on Intel's drivers site and update it manually (download a zip) or automatically (download a exe)
Reboot and check again. (If you changed the monitor then drivers are ok)

Good luck

*1 Yes I Have Intel Gfx Installed on.. i checked for updates.. but it has all updated drivers..
*2 No. 1152x864 is at the top of the list..
*3 No. I Used the Same Laptop for all the previous and this problem too..

My Card's name is Intel® Processor Graphics 3000.. I ran the Intel Update Utility and the Updater in Manage.. Everything say that its Updated..

I have a laptop too but I see the one resolution in top of the list marked as recommended (this is native for the LCD).

Is there a resolution marked as recommended? The 1152x864 isn't marked as recommended above. So I also think it's not the highest.
As you said, there should be a 1366x768 on the list and that's missing now: have to say I've never encountered this before.

There were some issues like this after connecting an external TV or monitor in the VGA / DVI / HDMI ports (whatever is available on the machine) and the screen changed automatically to a lower res. After plugging the monitor out, the resolution didn't changed back (refresh problem). If you had a monitor / TV connected before, try connecting it back and look at the resolutions and then plug it out and look again if the list is refreshed. Something like this never happened to me or on my machine, but my brother encountered it once.

Some examples about the recommended resolution on LCD's:

On an older LCD monitor with maximum 1024x768 I get this:
lcd.png

Important:
Is there a Intel Graphics icon in tray? (see screenshot below) or Control Panel:
intelgraphics.png

Look there for graphics settings and resolutions.

Hope you find a solution and maybe someone else has some ideas but that's all I can say on the matter.

Good luck

Fine I downloaded a latest driver from the Download Center.. It installed fine.. later, after installation, i had to reboot.. so i went ahead and the desktop showed up a vertically stretched Screen.. i got the Maximum resolution back.. 1366x768.. but even that resolution is stretched... Any Solution?

Waiting for a Positive Reply..

Yes, good point fafhrd. Didn't knew it.

Search with F3 in regedit. Here I got a 0 by default, that has to be it.
There are 4 or 5 entries found (repeat pressing F3) and here they have all value 0.

Normally there has to be a Intel option in tray icon (down in right corner) or
ctrl+alt+f11 toggle keys.

I hope it works for our original Poster - I am pretty sure that the 1152 x 864 resolution is due to that setting.

I hope that too.
Your fix is definetly a keeper but before the driver update he didn't had a 1366x768 res on the list (see previous posts) only some time ago. Probably something has changed during an update or wrong monitor detection.

.. That's a good method..
That Method is a good one to get the
stretch
to normal.. but now the resolution is changed back to 1152x864... It is changes back to the previous state.. I actually wanted the higher resolution that is 1366x768 without the stretch of the screen.. Is there a possible method to get that?

Thank You

I don't really have an answer here - although I know what is happening:

Now we are talking aspect ratios here 1152 x 864 = 1.333333333 = 4:3
whereas 1366 x 768 = 1.778645833 = 16:9

your Specs say:

Monitor(s) Displays Sony LED Monitor (2)
Screen Resolution 1600 x 1200

1600 x 1200 = 1.33333333 = 4:3

this explains why the 1152 x 864 = 1.333333333 = 4:3 looks unstretched and
1366 x 768 = 1.778645833 = 16:9 looks distorted
and of course to change from one resolution to the other you either need to squeeze or stretch the dimensions relative to each other.

But you also talk about your Laptop - what is the make and native screen resolution of that laptop? You don't give these figures.

Why aren't you able to run your graphics at 1600 x 1200 - or does that not apply to the laptop screen?
Do you need to identify your laptop screen to your system, so that it will be given the best resolution for that aspect ratio? Windows or the display driver often just says unknown non-PNP monitor - when the monitor is PNP.

You could download unknown devices (beta 1.4.2.0) from Halfdone: Unknown Devices to see if that can identify your monitor.

There are various tricks to altering the display without distorting the image, you can introduce black space at the edges, or overrun the sides or tops of the screen - like the older TVs had to do when displaying wide screen films. (Letterboxing, Pillarboxing, Windowboxing, zooming and cropping), but your graphics driver will not do these. Intel GMA drivers and control panels do not give all the features they indicate they can - like maintaining aspect ratio on all screens.

However, Laptops graphics drivers are often modified so that they do not cause problems on the hardware, however, they may still be poor drivers, and 3rd-party modified drivers can sometimes improve performance and stability. There may be better Intel HD 3000 drivers available. Latest driver for you I can find:

Intel HD Graphics Driver Windows 8 Release Preview download from Guru3D.com

I have 4 operating systems that I use on my netbook: Linux Mint 1024 x 600 - which just fits the screen - Windows XP where I can choose various sizes, some of which I have to scroll to get to the sides and top and bottom of the screen, and Windows 7 and Windows 8, both of which are limited to either 1024x600 or a distorted 1152x864 or 1024x768 - the laptop supplied drivers are for windows 7. If I had a choice, the XP drivers would be favourite.

What is the make and native screen resolution of that laptop?

The native Screen Resolution of My laptop is 1366x768.

Why aren't you able to run your graphics at 1600 x 1200 - or does that not apply to the laptop screen?

My laptop supports a Maximum Screen Resolution of 1366x768 pixels..

I had the resolution working really good before a couple of weeks.. But before a few days, The resolution shifted to 800x600 after a boot up.. Then, when i tried to change the resolution back to 1366x768, it was replaced with 1152x864.. Now i'm running 1152x864 px in my Screen.. For all the methods, i have been using a Fujitsu Lifebook AH531 with a maximum resolution of 1366x 768 which was running properly when i recently when i bought the laptop..
