You're still waiting for the video driver. I've got an email to my driver contact about sp59850 and why it doesn't support the models I was told it would. .

OK I don't quite understand what He (wes) told you Did he end up saying what? That it IS a workable driver?

cause I also got a message from him saying he was checking with his driver contact, and to "hang on" what ever that means.
I guess he means that he is talking to someone (driver contact) about this issue, and we have to wait, i guess....

I just took a look at the posts on the HP forum.

Once again, there is NO MAGIC to what they do. This means that after the driver is created (IMHO, all they do is sign it with the AMD signature, and add SUBSYS info), they DO NOT need to do any "testing" to enable it to support a specific HP model. Here is the explanation why:

Each PCI device is labelled with PCI IDs (see PCI Vendor and Device Lists or the ATI Catalyst PCI Vendor ID (1002) List) - this applies to most modern PnP devices (e.g. networking, flash drives, USB, etc.). These IDs uniquely identify the VENDOR, DEVICE, and SUBSYSTEM. ALL operating systems use these PCI device ID strings to match the device with an operating system driver that is identified as compatible (Windows uses INF files to do this).

What prevents you from doing this manually on 64-bit systems, is driver signing (signatures). If you edit the *.INF, you will invalidate the *.CAT (Catalog) files, which will then prevent the O/S from recognizing the driver as valid.

The info I posted is found in ..Packages\Drivers\Display\W86A_INF\*.INF of any of the HP SoftPaqs (e.g. SP59147 or SP59850). Again, you can view it, but modification will invalidate the driver, preventing you from using it on 64-bit Windows (however, you can edit the INF on 32-bit Windows to enable support for other hardware).

Again, as stated on the first post, Switchable Graphics drivers are 1) combined (merged) Intel+AMD drivers, 2) signed by AMD, and 3) that contain driver files for both the Intel HD Graphics (iGPU) AND AMD Radeon HD (dGPU). As explained previously, you CANNOT cryptographically sign the drivers twice; that is why you require AMD-signed Intel for Switchable Graphics (to ensure that when the AMD files load, the Intel files load together, and at the same time, i.e., as ONE driver).

The customizations that HP adds (to the original AMD drivers) actually limit the ability of the driver to ONLY support cards identified by the HP PCI VEN_SUBSYS code (103C) and their specific DEV_SUBSYS (as Peterdoubt experienced with his version of the HP/AMD Radeon HD 6370M; SUBSYS_163D103C Radeon 6370s are not supported by SP59147). For comparison, here are the supported cards (from the Beta11 INF) for AMD Catalyst 12.11 Beta11 released 2 days ago (note that VEN_1002 is AMD, and DEV identifies the Radeon number; %AMDxxxx.y% are for Windows driver purposes only):

This is why in some cases, you can *sometimes* upgrade your capabilities (I did this with Leshcat + DSE + AMD Beta, a.k.a. "mix-and-match") by installing the AMD Catalayst 12.11 Beta over your current Switchable Graphics long as they (iGPU and dGPU drivers) are both AMD-signed (and the driver signatures are recognized by Windows, or in Windows 8 Test Mode), they will work together and Switchable Graphics functions will be available.

However, no "testing" by any OEM will magically make your drivers compatible if the VEN+DEV+SUBSYS is not supported by the driver build (as verified by the contents of the INF).

SP59850: (AMD Graphics) (Intel Switchable Graphics) (AMD HDMI Audio)

    also this from another poster

The components from the softpaq sp59850 are infact identical to softpaq sp58788. The only difference is the cva file

Yes, from what I can tell it appears that SP59147 contains newer Intel files than SP59850. The latter may have updated AMD drivers, although it is hard to tell - for some reason somebody in HP decided to date the files 8/15/2012 in both.

The good news is that with SP59850 my machine is back to quiet fans again and it is behaving well under load (1 of 2 problems fixed)...but I am still getting the black screen crashes when I leave it to idle for a few hours (and when it does, my fan is on ultra-loud). No Windows debug files or minidumps are being created just takes a long time to resume and then displays the Windows light-blue screen of death with smiley saying "There was a problem...", and reboots.

I can also confirm that the files are NOT identical in both drivers (i.e. obviously the other poster is wrong, otherwise the Intel versions would match).

Man, well thanks for the IT lesson lol, however all I need is to know that one of these drivers will install, and work as expected on W8. I'm not much into mix and match.

Since my model does have the windows 8 OS listed and has some drivers listed I'm assuming that it WILL be supported, and a graphics driver should show up for the damned thing.

Now as far as subsys info goes, as far as I can tell from what has been posted, that both 59147 and this 59850 have my hardware ID's listed for this idiotic 7690m xt/ intel 3000 setup. So I'm assuming either one should theoretically install and see my setup.

As for testing, yeah who knows what that entails by HP, I just had a phone con with another HP dummy, that again went around in circles, with nothing accomplished, I ended up telling him to forget the script, and just forward what I said to the damned driver development division, as he didn't know squat and that I didn't expect much more from a phone in rep anyway, but get tired of hearing the same old shit like they actually have an idea what they are talking about.

Also, Leshcat has released a new version of the 3rd-party driver...for Enduro cards (AMD Radeon HD 7600+).

yeah I was on his site today and seen where he was asking for testers, but I didn't see any driver posted. Who knows, too bad he can't find a way to get his drivers signed so as to get away from the test mode thing. But if that ends up the ONLY driver available than I guess test mode will have to do to get W8 to run.

Anyway I can't do a damned thing right now, still have to wait to get to use a high speed connection to not just d/l a 200mg driver file, but to even go through the W8 install process and the media center updates. So maybe by time I can leshcat or HP will have something.

Thanks for hanging around alphastar, between you and this adrylene dude I did got some good info on these drivers.

This was a reply to me from notebook FYI

If that's your graphics card's hardware ID and subsys ID string, then I made a mistake and it should be supported in your case. This also means that the AMD graphics cards within the dv6-6bXX / dv6-6cXX and dv7-6bXX / dv7-6cXX family could work with these drivers too, should they have a matching hardware and subsys ID.

    This was my reply.

Right, now the question is would that sp59147 posted here on page 1 be a better choice? since you stated that it had a more updated intel driver?

However sometimes those Intel drivers can cause problems themselves, I haven't looked into the subsys strings listed in that sp59147, what's your opnion?

Also what's your take on that enduro style driver from leshcat that he just posted? how does that compare to either sp59147 or sp59850?

If you're asking for my vote, I would still try SP59850, as suggested by HP. SP59147 also supports your AMD Radeon 7690M XT, but in my experience, it runs "hotter" than the SP59850 drivers (based on what I observed with my system fans).

Leshcat's new driver is built from a specific release of the AMD Catalyst 12.11 Beta for Enduro cards...which you can read more about it on Guru3D. AFAIK it is based on Beta7/Beta8, which is older than the Beta11 (latest beta) currently available on the AMD Support Hub. If you want, try updating with Beta11 after you install SP59850. (Edit: this is my current config - SP59850+12.11 Beta11)

Benchmarks of the Enduro Beta release are featured in this article by Jarred Walton/Anandtech dated 27 Nov.

yup sounds about what I may end up using.

Got a note back from this Wes guy at HP today too, sad my unit was now being "tested" and the driver should show up soon on the download page, now what sp number that will be is anybodys guess.
