I've recently built a gaming rig and installed windows 8.1. Text is a little fuzzy/blurry and really puts strain on my eyes which gives me a headache.

specs

powercolor radeon r9 270

power supply VS550

I have tried the following

different monitor.

cleartype

Amd catalyst settings

changing scale options

different monitor port hdmi/dvi

resetting whole computer

changing monitor brightness

changing gamma

Using the Intel integrated graphics

changing resolution

changing refresh rate

I don't know what else it could be, My other computer with windows 7 works perfectly fine with the monitors. Someone please help me :(

Have you had an eye exam recently? :geek:
Maybe you need "anti-glare" eye glasses (they have a lens coating to reduce eye strain for using computers).

If its an LCD monitor run it at its recommended native resolution. Anything else is just going to result in a distorted image.

Try turning down the brightness level. A lot of monitors come from the factory defaulted a little too bright. Try adjusting the brightness and see how that goes. You might also check your graphics brightness setting as well; However, you'd be better off adjusting the brightness from the monitor instead of the video card.

And yes, an overly bright monitor will strain your eyes and give you a headache. Speaking from experience.

I have no problem with my other desktop or laptop. It's just the LG monitor so I think it must just be something to do with that monitor. I tried it with another computer and it still hurt my eyes. The brightness is set to 0 on the monitor. Whereas the brightness on catalyst control centre (AMD graphics interface) is set to default. I have tried changing it but it doesn't make the problem any better. Could it be to do with it being LED, LCD?

I'm confused. You said in your original post you tried another monitor and insinuated it was still bad. I think we have a communication breakdown.

If the monitor brightness is set to 0 (zero) as you say it would (should) be so dim as to barely see anything, so if the brightness is indeed set to zero (through the monitor's brightness control) and the monitor is still bright there's something wrong with the monitor.

And no, it shouldn't make any difference in whether the monitor is LCD or LED.

BTW how is the monitor connected to the video card - HDMI, VGA, DisplayPort?

Let us know.

Yes previously I did try another monitor, but just briefly. On the second monitor the text was still a little blurry so I came to the conclusion that it was the computer. After awhile I reconsidered this assumption I made because I tried changing the monitor again and realised it didn't actually hurt my eyes or head like the other monitor did, although some text was still blurry it was bearable. Sorry about the confusion.
