Update my driver today with this package and works fine. Be aware that Windows Update will try and install the old driver.

Has anyone tried this for AMD Switchable Graphics (e.g. Intel HD Graphics 3000 + AMD Radeon HD 6700M) on Windows 8 Release Preview x64 (Build 8400)?

I am aware of Leshcat's drivers, but they are only built for Windows 7 and below.

If anyone has this working (without setting the PC's BIOS to Fixed Mode, but rather, using Dynamic Mode with AMD's Win8 Catalyst Control Center), please post the installation steps + drivers + versions used.

Thanks much,

A.

I have problem on ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470. I get BlueScreen when i try install drivers from Catalyst Installer or Device Manager. I tried installing old (Consumer Preview or Win 7 12.6 Beta, 12.4, 12.2) driver but then i can not switch to AMD 5470 from AMD 4250. I see code 10 error on properties of 5470 in Device Manager. I am using Power Saving GPU now and waiting for a solution on internet

Sorry for waking up this a week old topic, but just asking: Is that AMD's driver for windows 8 a complete one, or just a small compatibility conversion to 8, since the conversion didn't work with accelerated OpenGL mode (and that's why i had to downgrade back to 7)

Look, what i've created... just a few visits at the recyclement center was enough...
WDDM1.2 is awful on my system (Radeon HD5770).
Text in all applications is blurry with ghosting etc.
I have tried everything suggested on the forums but the problem persists.
I can understand WDDM1.1 being a bit buggy, but AMD have had plenty of time to fix those issues.

Have you guys tried running Cyberlink PowerDVD 12 or WinDVD Pro 11 or Truetheater using AMD graphics cards? Know any driver version that would allow me to use these softwares?

Tried running these same apps using Intel HD 3000 and it would load up correctly

Jim

I don't believe AMD will release Windows 8 drivers for 'Legacy' products.

Note: The In-the-box AMD graphics driver that is included with Windows® 8 will include support for the AMD Radeon HD 4000, 3000, and 2000 series, and it will support the WDDM 1.1 driver level features. Please also note there will be no support for AMD PowerXpress™ feature on the mobility variants. The AMD Catalyst driver for Windows 8 will only include support for WDDM 1.2 support products (AMD Radeon HD 5000 and later), and will not support the AMD Radeon HD 4000, HD 3000, and HD 2000 series.

ugly

ouch... of all the issues I was NOT expecting with a clean install of Enterprise RTM... after the first hour or so, got around to d/l'ing Catalyst 12.8, installed, [custom], all went fine.
But it is UGLY.... I swear I thought the thing had reverted to something like enhanced vga... the fonts all look overdriven and fuzzy, the icons look odd. it is the correct driver [that is, it installed] but what on earth happened??

whatever the driver is/was that loaded with the original install package looked fine, but 12.8 looks horrid.
I went from Win7 to 8 on the same rig with no hardware changes. removed the old drive for safekeeping, put a different drive in, formatted and clean-installed.
On the old rig, it correctly ID'd my big external monitor connected via hdmi. with the new Windows 8 + 12.8, it shows it as a "generic monitor" but with the right default resolution of 1920x1080

I guess I shall uninstall the device & driver and start over.
If any of you have been here and fixed, pls share

Re: UGLY Font Rendering

I have the same problem on Windows 8 Pro RTM.
However, I also had this problem with the original Windows 8 driver and on the Release Preview and all previous iterations of Windows 8.

I am able to get reasonably clear fonts only in Firefox and Waterfox by setting in about:config
gfx.direct2d.disabled = true

Apparently the font rendering in Windows 8 is different to Windows 7. One aspect is the use of grey-scale anti-aliasing instead of RGB anti-aliasing.

On a Mozilla forum one poster had noted this problem on PCs with varying configurations including Intel HD graphics and both Nvidia and AMD video cards.

The blurry fonts in IE10 make it virtually unusable for me. :(

I am dual booting Windows 7 on the same PC and have no font problems in Windows 7 using Catalyst 12.8.

same here - my card in this lab mule is a radeon 5570 and it is flat glorious on the display under windows 7 - that was with 12.6, haven't loaded up .8 as yet although I use on my thinkpad and its the best so far on it - win7 x64 hp.

I tried some remediation on the W8 system this morning - you can help it a LITTLE by changing the pixel format to the last one on the list .. something like RGB 4;4 - last selection. in fact, the difference between that one and the default is shocking if you flip them back/forth -. but its still flat ugly compared to xp or Win7 - somethings will have you thinking your eyesight has failed.

I assume that on the new tablets it will look 'normal' and hopefully on the new phones coming late year. for me, its a downgrade at the moment so I'll be putting my other drive back to work.

I have the same problem on Windows 8 Pro RTM.
However, I also had this problem with the original Windows 8 driver and on the Release Preview and all previous iterations of Windows 8.

I am able to get reasonably clear fonts only in Firefox and Waterfox by setting in about:config
gfx.direct2d.disabled = true

A.

Someone please answer this guy. I'm in the same situation. HD4000 + Radeon 7750 graphics card. Switchable graphics could be a problem win8
