Legacy graphics card issue (I know it isn't technically supported!)

I have a very old machine (HP Pavilion zv6000) with a RADEON Mobility Xpress 200m graphics card. Apparently, the drivers for Vista are supposed to work with Win7, (and by extension, I should think, Win8). These drivers are contained in the Catalyst Control Center (CCC) v. 10.2. However, they will not install from CCC, but return the error "failed to find any installable components", including when run as an administrator or in compatibility mode. After much searching, I figured out I could access the proper drivers directly from the Update Driver wizard by choosing "Browse for driver software", then "Let me pick from a list of drivers", then "Have Disk", browsing to C:\ATI\Support\(something long)\Packages\Drivers\Display\LH_INF\CL95951.inf, and then choosing RADEON Mobility Xpress 200 series from the list. Windows does not recognize these drivers as compatible with my hardware, but I choose to install anyway. However, it immediately tells me that the drivers are not compatible with this version of windows. There are 3 instances of 200 series in the list, as well as 3 instances of "secondary", and I tried all 6. Win8 runs great, but I'm sick of the crappy screen resolution! Am I just out of luck with an ancient laptop?

I have that same unit and have W8 CP running with the W8 supplied driver. I have not tried W8 RP but expect the same. Sound and card reader won't work. I have it dual-boot with Windows 7 64bit and really only use it for E-mail and browsing when on vacation. It is so slow but easy to carry and its paid for.

Yeah, I got W8 running just fine, but the resolution is crappy because it uses default VGA drivers instead of ATI drivers.

Not working with this solution on my Toshiba Satellite L30-155 with ATI Radeon Xpress 200M and Windows 8 RP. I give an error when I installing the package. The error is: "Windows find driver software for your device but encoutered an error while attempting to install it. The system cannot find the file specified."

Do you know a solution?

This will solve the problem with Ati Radeon Xpress 200m graphic card on Windows 8 RP .

Can you supply your Hardware IDs? I can add them to the inf if the following steps don't work.

Download the legacy drivers for ATI here.
Now since the drivers won't work without compatibility mode follow these steps.
1. Right click the downloaded setup.exe and choose "Properties"
2. Click the "Compatibility" tab.
3. Click the "Change settings for all users"
4. Check the "Run this program in compatibility mode..." and in the drop down window choose "Windows 7"
5. Finally run the setup.

Hope this works. If it doesn't, well I don't even own an Ati card :D

Super cool... been trying for 2 days, to install the driver. Windows 8 looks soooo pleasing now, and is way better than good old xp and win7. Thanks a lot.
So incredible. You are a new member since 6 days, and your first post has already helped someone (me).

Entire system seems to be running faster than ever.
Computer came with windows XP, since then upgraded to windows 7, but was too slow, so we tried linux ubuntu and after that linux mint. Slow. Buggy. Printer sometimes wouldn't print.
With windows 8 I believe the computer is faster than ever (since XP SP2).

The computer is a toshiba laptop with celeron cpu. I believe it's from around 2006.

I have a similar issue. My friend's PC is running an ATI X1300 card. I tried installing 10.2, but although it seemed to work, I can't find CCC anywhere and the basic Windows video driver is still installed. Everything seems to chug without proper video drivers. Any help would be appreciated.

I used that drivers on windows 8 on a packard bell mz35 and works fine, but the CCC don't work because it needs Framework 2.0 and makes conflict with framework 4.0 based on W8, so, you can install the driver, but you can't use the CCC.

My instruction is, use the setup on windows Vista SP2 compatibility mode, and it will work :)

If you need any help just ask for it :)

The thing was to make sure that the compability options was made on the setup.exe file you get when you have installed the program. I first made the settings on the first fle that I downloaded. Stupid me xD
THANKS AGAIN!
