I am running Windows 8.1 64 with an Intel HD 4000 graphics card (although I also have a Geforce GT 730M, it uses optimus so which card is used depends on the demands of the program).
I thought I was running a resolution of 1280x1024 @ 122Hz, but it was actually upscaled to 1280x1024 at 85Hz on some higher resolution or something. I could tell because the pixels around text were blurred at the edges. I added 2 custom resolutions to the Intel menu, 1280x1024@122Hz and 640x480@149Hz, then I tinkered with the "Advanced settings" in the Windows menu "Screen resolution," clicked "List all modes" and somehow managed to get the display to display 1280x1024@122Hz correctly. I could tell because the mouse moved more smoothly on the screen (and for some other reasons which are monitor-specific and take a while to explain). I may have also succeeded in this by tinkering with the "Intel HD Graphics Control Panel" tab under "Advanced settings" in the "Screen resolution" settings window. There is an option to "Maintain display scaling," "Customize Aspect ratio," or "Stretch" the image, and I believe there was at least one other option.
Anyway, I was previously playing an old game at 640x480 resolution (set by changing desktop resolution settings to 640x480) and the low-resolution image was scaled to a higher resolution. Now that this stretch function is turned off, I don't know how to turn it back on. I would like to maintain a global resolution of 1280x1024@122Hz, and stretch anything smaller to fit (this is because I'm using a CRT and smaller resolutions produce ugly black bars throughout the screen). How do I do this?
Also, I have a monitor which supports, for example, 2048x1536 @ 86Hz, but the custom resolution menu says "The resolution exceeds the maximum bandwidth capacity." What can I do to fix this?
