I downloaded the newest 296.17 driver that is available for my card and OS. It does not work so I download a modified inf from laptopvideo2go.com and still nothing. that is what I did with Win 7, I needed to use a modified inf. But it is not working on win 8.

What am I doing wrong?

Cool. Yeah, for 64 bit the easiest way to install the driver is to download it from Sony's website for your model. If it doesn't install by running the .exe, use the device manager to install by pointing it to the extracted folder or .inf file created from the initial attempt. Usually C:\NVIDIA\....

my computer originally came with 32 bit software so when I go to sony's website the drivers are only available in 32 bit. it will not run on my 64 bit os

Open device manager, right click the video adapter. Properties | Details tab. Change the dropdown to say hardware ids. Then copy/paste the results below to here. (No screenshots instead of copy/paste, please.)

I'll set you up with instructions so the latest driver works for your machine, but you will have to do one of the following 3 choices:

1) Sign the driver.

2) Disable driver signing enforcement checks permanently.

3) Disable driver signing enforcement checks each time at boot from the menu.
