Hello everyone,

I run a 500W PSU, so Nvidia assures me that it will be ample for the GTX 980. I currently run a 770.

If I overclock the base clock by a further 100MHz, and the memory clock by around 200MHz, will it really increase the TDP by that much? And will a 500W PSU still be ample? Cheers.

Why do you even want to overclock it ??? Its for sure not because 999 fps is not enough for you, so it must be just for fun, so i'd say read some books and learn how to do it :)

Traditionally, OCing video memory helps more than OCing GPU. Results also depend of CPU and RAM, if they are not top notch, OCing video card will not give you any boost.

Why even bother to get a Reference GTX980-4GB ?

3D-Mark-Score:

2x GTX980-4GB-SLI = 17.490

2x GTX780-Ti-GHz-Edition-3GB-SLI =

GeForce v340.52 Beta:

Pushed them a bit further (Voltage = 1.187V | Power Target = 106% | Temp Target = 95C | GPU Clock : Base = 1120 / Boost = 1185MHz / Average = 1241MHz | Memory Clock = 7380MHz)

... and that with a 3960X @Stock vs a 3770k @4700MHz and the 3960X should be still a bit more powerful, even @Stock.

The Gigabyte GTX980-4GB is AU$799,- and therefor only ~100 bucks cheaper than my GHz-Ti's:

Thanks guys.

I'm "reasonably" well versed with overclocking GPUs, as it's quite a simple process. Just wondering if any expert-grade enthusiasts would be able to approximate TDP and wattage for slightly overclocked 980's. Count, cheers for the info. I *think* that the 980s have a pretty substantial video memory already, it's the core clock I'd ideally want to push!

TONSCHUH, really interesting results there, it took me a few minutes to comphrehend them, but the main reason I'd want 980 non-reference, and a 980 specifically as opposed to a 780 ti; due to the far superior power efficiency and the fact that my 500W PSU is fine, where for a 780 ti I'd have not a hope in running it well.

I guess when I purchase one, I'll overclock it, and see how it fairs on my 500W system, and report back here. May be a while though guys.

It should be possible to OC it with your PSU: Click

Thank you TONSCHUH.

This is helpful, I wont push it as far as they did in that article, will probably go +100MHz
