Solved Resolution jumps to 640x480 after login

Hello. New to the forum. I hope I've posted in the right place

I recently bought a Razer Blade 14 laptop and have been enjoying it so far.

However, after a few days, the resolution of the screen jumps down to 640x480 after a few seconds from logging in to windows
It has been annoying as I have to change it back to the default 3200x1800 each time. There would then be no problems until the next log in.


Any help to fix would be appreciated. Thanks

After the resolution is set as desired, try holding down the power button until the machine shuts off completely. Wait 10 or 15 seconds, then power it back up. Just a chance it may force the setting to "stick" between logins.

Thanks for replying. Unfortunately, I tried what you said a few times but it didn't work.
Any other suggestions? Otherwise, I'll try reinstalling windows to see if it fixes it?

Did you check for a forum by your machine's maker? Sometimes you find out things only known to long time users of a particular make. One thing you could try that doesn't take long is boot the system in Safe Mode, delete the driver for the touchpad. Reboot normally. Windows will reinstall the driver. That trick seems to work as often as not. It's worth a shot.

I noticed that after logging in, there is a buffering ring next to my cursor before it reverts to 640x480 and also makes the same sound as inserting an usb

I posted in a forum called Notebook Review which has a Razer subforum before I posted here. Still waiting for a reply on there though. Seems as though this problem is uncommon on the Razer Blade. From Google, I could only find this problem on Windows 7.

FIXED - I had a look at Task Manager and on the Startup tab, I disabled AVG User Interface as that was one of the recent apps I installed. It doesn't revert to 640x480 anymore.

Do you know why AVG would do that? What other antivirus software would you recommend?

Just use Windows Defender. It's the old Microsoft Security Essentials bundled with Defender. It's pretty good as long as you aren't to adventurous in the web sites you visit.

I'm not a big believer in AV. As you've seen yourself it can interfere with the normal operation of the machine. There's no 100% guaranteed method of protection. Even running ToolWiz Time Freeze(sort of like Returnil) it prevents the system partition from being written but you still can get tracking cookies while running it.

Image backup is a good idea. Registry backup. I'm a fan of Malwarebytes scanner. I don't get into AV debates. For me it's counter productive.

The best method told to me of system down time prevention was from a guy on another forum. He installed rails for the HD in all his machines(they are probably custom builds.) He uses a docking station. In the station he places a HD identical to the one in the PC. He makes an image of the system HD using Macrium Reflect. He restores the image to the drive in the dock. Then takes the drive out of the dock and puts it in an anti-static bag in a drawer.

He dows this at least twice a week. If his HD fails or is infected, he pulls it out of the rails, slides in the drive from the drawer, and boots. All done. All that is lost are any changes since the last image restore.

My next desktop machine I want to set it up like that.
