Hello,
I have a notebook with first generation i7 processor. It comes with windows 7 home premium pre installed and I would like to upgrade it to windows 8 or 8.1. But Intel's latest HD Graphics v15.22.58.64.2993 (2/19/2013) is only compatible with windows 7 as they mentioned. Also my manufacturer was stop providing drivers for the latest operating systems after windows 7 for my model. Can I still update my O/S with the above driver?
Please help!
Thanks in advance before.

Can't help you much if you don't tell us the full make and model of your computer so we may look at the specs and which actual drivers you are concerned about.

Have you ran the Windows Upgrade Assistant, it will tell you what needs to be addressed:

Mine is Acer Aspire 5745G. They have removed specs pages for older aspire 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000 & 8000 series models from their site and replaced by S, R, V, E serieses. Full model number is Aspire 5745G-644G50MNKS.

My specs are;
Intel® Core™ i7-640M Processor (4M Cache, 2.80 GHz)
Previous Generation (First) Intel® HD Graphics
NVIDIA GeForce GT 420M 1GB
4GB DDR 3 1066Mhz RAM
500GB 5400RPM Sata II HDD
15.6" 16:9 HD Ready LED (1366x768)

*Edit* I ran both windows 8 and 8.1 upgrade assistants. The only incompatible thing is secure boot, because my manufacturer ain't providing a BIOS upgrade. Others are general; Gadgets are no longer available, Need different player to play DVDs like that.

I tried evaluation copy of 8.1 with dual booting. Everything goes fine in installation. Almost all drivers were automatically installed by windows and I manually upgraded Intel and nVidia drivers to the OEM customized versions. But now I have an issue with GPU switching. (nVidia optimus) Same thing applies when I was trying latest official generic drivers from those manufacturers. This is why I made this thread :cry:

From what I've seen, you should be OK for windows. For your Nivdia drivers and GPU concerns go to this site:
