Question about custom displays? Are they possible?

Background: AMD Catalyst 100% up to date.

Build #1: Radeon 7850
Build #2: R9 290X

My question is this, is it possible to somehow manipulate the display driver(s) and simulate a custom desktop resolution? My native monitor ( which is an older Dell cheap-o anyway ) resolution can go up to like 1600x1020 but what I want to do is use like 800x600.resolution. ( I have a vision impairment and was hoping for at least general browsing I could use this resolution )

Before a graphic card update I could use my Radeon 7850 build to do this but I can't now.

Most times the resolution can be set for 800x600 [ratio of 4:3], might check the setting panel for showing all supported resolutions.

Nope, on both builds the lowest is like 1024x768

On the 7850 driver I am able to make custom displays via the catalyst driver program however it does say there is a chance it won't display and with my luck it's exactly what happened, wouldn't show.

with the custom res what refresh was it trying to use? also why don't you just raise your DPI so things are bigger.

As a person who has a visual impairment by raising the DPI it would make it harder for me to see fonts, what is on the screen and such as that.

To my knowledge the refresh rate is 60hz. My monitor is suppose to support 59 and 60.

that reply was pretty quick lol. making the fonts bigger make them harder to see? what impairment? my family are optometrists is why I ask by the way.

There might be something here in the Make the computer easier to see, Ease of Access Center of the Control Panel.

Oh man several things

Glaucoma
Aniridia
Posterior Subcapsular Cataract ( only in left eye already got right eye took care of )
Extreme near sighted

My eye acuity is like 20/550 in my right eye and around 20/425 in my left eye

I normally use ZoomText after my eyes start to get tired and such but I have found that at least for me using lower resolutions such as 1024x768 or 800x600 helps me alot also compared to zoomtext constantly. (not to mention can you imagine gaming with zoomtext running! )

Damn man I feel for you I'm about 20/40 and 20/60 corrected and 20/2000 uncorrected I'll look more into this for you when I get some time some others have asked this from me before. I get where your comming from on the gaming aspect. Haven't heard of zoom text will need to check it out.

Oh that acuity is with corrective lens xD..

Zoomtext is a great visual assistive technology software by Ai Squared. It costs a fairly good bit but it's well worth the price.

I figured that it was with correction, zoomtext seems like JAWS for the blind. quick Google search came up with this so you might want to check it out. Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
