AMD Feature Manager Question

Hi I have windows 8.1 and downloading the 13.12 Drivers gave me this program called "AMD Feature Manager". It has a green AMD logo and shows up when I right click anywhere in the desktop, right under "AMD Catalyst Control Center". Whenever I click on it - the program just loads AMD CCC. It seems pretty redundant to include this since I have "AMD Catalyst Control Center" right above it that does the same exact thing. Is there registery edit that can get rid of the option in the Context Menu or can I just uninstall it completely?

Thanks in advance

Reminds me of the NVIDIA Control Panel and The GForce Experience bloatware to go with it.
You can definitely delete that right click context menu item. Open the CCC and look under view or help or the like.
It could very well be an update manager or so.

I looked under "Help" and "Preferences" as shown here:

and it doesn't give an option to get rid of that context menu item. Whenever I click on the Question Mark (Help) icon, it just brings up this document:

There's no registry edit I can do to get rid of it? I know you can get rid of the AMD "Catalyst Control Center" context menu by deleting the reg key "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\ACE" but doesn't work for the "AMD Feature Manager" :(

No. In ShellExView, click the company column so they are arranged in alphabetical order by company name.

Look at "Advanced Micro Devices, Inc."

The ones for normal CCC are:

DisplayCplExt Class No System AMD Desktop Control Panel 6.14.10.2001 AMD Desktop Component Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. No No No No No No C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Core-Static\atiamaxx.dll {872A9397-E0D6-4e28-B64D-52B8D0A7EA35} 1/8/2014 9:47:00 PM 2/4/2014 9:25:08 PM No A 559,104 No

Whatever else you have besides those 2 for normal CCC from AMD are the ones you should delete.

You'll probably have to kill Explorer with Task Manager then restart it to see changes take effect.

You're welcome.

Thank's again! It got rid of it :geek:. This might be a little off-topic, but would ShellExView work to edit and change shell buttons? e.g maximize, minimize, close

No. Those are coded into application .exe files for each program.

I think (but not completely a million percent sure) that the Windows theme itself dictates the default and then any program itself can choose to use the default or provide its own.

To alter that, you'd need something like ResHacker (for single .exe files) and also something like Universal Theme Patcher (to be able to use altered Windows themes). I don't know if UTP is available for Windows 8.

It's not easy to do, unless you know specific places to look inside the .exe files.

Over at Sevenforums.com, many great custom theme builders have figured it all out for 7. Like I said though, not sure about 8 etc...

If you play around with Windows files and run into trouble, you'll need this command from elevated command prompt to put it all back to default:

sfc /scannow

You'll also need Take Ownership and you will need to use command prompt to overwrite original files with ones you've made, while Explorer has been killed with Task Manager.
