Screen Resolution problem with ATI Radeon HD 4200

Recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 on my Dell Inspiron 570 with an ATI Radeon HD 4200 graphics card. I can't get the resolution to go any higher than 1600 x 1200 - would prefer to go to 1980 x 1024. Please help!!!!

What video drivers are you using -- Microsoft or AMD?

If you're using Microsoft, I had similar problems and switched to using AMD drivers on my HD 4290 -- but I had to install the drivers using a trick, since running the installer accomplished nothing.

If you're using AMD, realize that the latest driver I was able to get to work was Catalyst 13.1. There are newer versions of their driver but I could not get anything newer than 13.1 to work.

Thanks Mark - trying the download of 13.1 now. Did it work for you just using the installer, and if not, what was the trick you had to use that you referenced?

The trick was to unpack the download to a directory on "C:" -- and, instead of running the installer, go into Device Manager, select the display device, select the option to upgrade the driver, use the option to search the local machine for an updated driver -- and point it to the folder that contains the ".inf" file for the updated drivers.

Look for AMD drivers with " legacy" in the name.
