dual GPU's

OK....this may sound weird....I have 2 AMD HD GPU's...an XFX 6790 (primary) and Powercolor 4870 (shelved). Can I have both installed with out using crossfire? I have and extra PCIe slot...x 8 and I want to install it just to be able to connect 2 more monitors. I want to do this soley for the purpose of not having to go out and buy a few active display port adapters at $40 each....just be able to use what I have. Is this possible and would there be any conflicts have the 2 different branded AMD GPU's installed.

no the cards only have to be the same family if running in crossfire mode.
if all he wants to do is have 4 monitors 2 per card then just install the other card, install drivers
then set up your extended desktop

have a setup with 4 monitors running on my spare / test pc at the moment Win8.1 pro x64, Radeon 7950 and a Radeon 5750 no problems here.
