Driver for ATI radeon X1250 on Win 8

Hi.
I'm running Vista 64 and tried to upgrade to win 8.
It went well enough, but my screen resolution became very poor.
I have AMD Radeon X1250 graphics and can't find a driver that will work on Win 8, so I reverted to Vista. But I really want to run Win 8.
Can anyone help me and tell me what to do, because I've heard there is a solution to this problem?
Have searched the forum and didn't find thread for just this problem.
Thanks in advance.

There are no Win8 drivers for that series chipset; in fact, it's not really supported under Win7, either.

Sorry, but with a chipset that old, you are relegated to using the Windows Basic display driver in Win8.

Yes I know this, but there supposed to be a way to get some drivers that actually works on win7 to also work on win8, but I don't know how to do it and what driver to use..

Actually -- some video drivers that work in Win7 do not work in Win8. I know because I had a laptop with the Intel 915GM chipset, which worked OK in Win7 but would not work at all in Win8. MS removed the compatibility feature that it used from Win8.

You can try installing in compatibility mode -- but if that doesn't work, you're stuck.

Sorry if I misunderstand, but you mean I have Intel chips? I don't. I have AMD Turion 64x2 with ATI radeon X1250 graphics.
My laptop is about 7 years old, but have great specs: HP notebook, 4G RAM, FullHD (1080x1650), BT, 240G SSD, 64bits pro laptop and is running great.
If to buy new laptop with win8 it's relatively expencive to match this specs. That's why I was eager to try to upgrade my OS.

I used the Intel chipset as an example of a video chipset that had drivers that worked in Win7 but do not work in Win8. Win7 was able to use some drivers written for XP and many drivers written for Vista.

MS removed the XP compatibility option for Video drivers in Win8.

The other laptop specs don't matter -- it's the AMD video chipset that is the problem. AMD stopped writing drivers for your video chipset years ago.

The basic windows driver in Windows 8 is fairly soft focus / low resolution.

Suggest you use the last HP driver here to download the driver HP website. When you install just browse to the main folder and select, whilst ensuring that the 'sub folders' option is ticked. The X1250 driver is fairly common including on the HP range of laptops etc.
