Solved Upgrade GPU

Over the summer, I bought a new Samsung desktop system online. It is a very modest system with only a dual core CPU. I did ask for 8GB of RAM which is nice. My current GPU is a NVIDIA GeForce GT 620. (4GB - 1GB dedicated) I confess that I like to play GTA, but my current video card is not happy with the requirements. Is it possible to upgrade to a better GPU? The Samsung support people said no, but I would rather hear from people that really know. Further, in your opinion, would it be worth the effort and expense?

Here is an excerpt from dxdiag.exe:

If that video card is in a PCI express slot I do not see why not, just don't go to something too high end, processor might bottleneck it and you will not have a full performance from it in some games. Also got to watch the power supply, if new one draws much more power it might not be able to cope with it. Another reason they said no is that PSU does not have right connectors for some other video cards but there are adapters for all kinds of them. Changing the GPU might void warranty too.

All sound advice by CountMike but I'm most concerned that you asked Samsung support and they flat-out answered "no." So, did you ask why at that point? If not, go back and ask again. Also, another concern would be that Samsung has their BIOS locked and system manufacturers are notorious for trying to keep people from upgrading their system builds. Good luck.

Thank you so much for your knowledgeable replies and expertise. Actually, I had someone else make the call to Samsung for me. I may pursue the matter after the semester ends and go to the Samsung store in person for more detailed information. However, your excellent summarization gives me more information to work with. Thank you, again.

As far as upgrading your gpu goes, once you double checked on if it voids warranty and if there is no BIOS issues, I would personally recommend a 450-550W Power Supply that is 80+ Bronze from Corsair, Seasonic, Coolermaster, or any reputable PSU brand and a GTX 650 or HD 7770 2GB graphics card which shouldn't get bottlenecked by your CPU unless you play a CPU intensive game. Good luck! :)
