ATI FireGL V3100 Not Working

Hi All!

I just installed the Windows 8.1 Preview 64-bit last night and am loving the improvements over Windows 7 Pro 64-bit!!! I am running it on a Dell Optiplex 745 Tower.

My only problem is that my ATI FireGL V3100 is not being recognized by windows at all. I checked in the device manager and it doesn't even show up. I currently have a monitor hooked up to the card and it is working fine. Unfortunately, AMD doesn't have a driver for Windows 8. For that matter it didn't have on for Windows 7 either, only a Vista driver, but it worked fine in Windows 7. Same thing with the Dell drivers, worked for Windows 7, but not for Windows 8, even though the drivers were for Vista 64-bit.

I am wanting to hook up a second monitor, but when I do, it doesn't even detect the second monitor. All it does mirror the first display onto the second monitor. I looked into the Screen Resolution settings and even tried clicking Detect. Nothing. It found my first monitor, a Acer AL1916. Even when I unplug the Acer, it thinks the other monitor, a HP LP1965, is the same thing, it doesn't change the name of the monitor. I even tried going to HP to get a driver for my second monitor and installed that, to no avail.

Any help that you can provide is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

I ended up chucking Windows 8. Why the card would work fine in Windows 7 and then not at all in Windows 8 makes no sense. I like Windows 8 when it works, but not when it doesn't.

It's only a guess, but since the 10.2 legacy drivers say XP, it's possible that the X1300 drivers were actually XPDM, not WDDM -- which would work OK in Vista and Win7 because MS supported XPDM drivers in both. But ... they removed XPDM driver support from Win8. So, none of those old drivers will work anymore.

I ran into this on a laptop that has the infamous Intel 915GM chipset -- XPDM drivers worked with Vista/Win7, not with Win8.

As to driver updates, that's NOT going to happen with a device this old.

You're probably stuck (like I am) using the Windows Basic driver.

Hmm. I have a ATI FireGL V3100 which according to the device manager is WDDM. According to what you said, it should work in Win8 since it is WDDM, right? Am I missing something? Thanks for clarifying.

what i can ssay about windows 8 graphics card problem is you have to update the vga and forget the display adaptors thats exact

what i think about this graphics card issue of windows 8 is that you need to install the vga ignore the display adapter, get the latest driver for your graphics card extract it in a place in c and update the vga driver manually choosing the folder your drivers were extracted too that will get you going am loving windows 8 am loving it x1300 is all i got

Not all WDDMs are the same. I believe that Win8 wants a WDDM 1.2 driver, while the X1300 is WDDM 1.0 or 1.1.

I tried to follow that, but I couldn't get it to work. Can you provide some better instructions please?

I presume you're talking about the instructions in post #5, right?

The ATI driver download is an exe file. You have to click on it to extract it to a folder -- but don't continue with the driver installation, instead, just exit.

In Device Manager, look for Display adapters, open it, and select the option to update the driver. Use the option to select the drivers on your PC, then browse to the folder where you extracted the drivers.

I did that and it gave me the screen shown in the attachment. I am even using a version meant for Windows 8.1 Preview!!! I appreciate your assistance.

I think it does that if you let IT look for the drivers, but if you choose the other option, browse to the folder containing the .INF file, it will attempt to install the drivers in that folder.

Try to install this driver: Microsoft Update Catalog ( you may have to install an add-on from Microsoft- install it and then search for `radeon 2100`). Download the 64-bit driver (the second one), unzip it and install via Device manager- choose the first Inf file. I hope it would install! Good luck

If you're going to use Microsoft Update Catalog, then use the following link for finding X1300 drivers:

I would install the newest one -- listed at the bottom.

You have searched for `radeon 1300` not `radeon X1300`. According to AMD Radeon X1300 is regarded as legacy so the last driver package was 10.2 (driver version 8.593) so I don't think that this driver is compatible.
