Some AMD 7750 class would not be too much for the rest of the system and would allow you to play a good range of games, maybe not to their fullest but playable.

I just picked up the GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost (2gb) based on the recommendation at Tom's Hardware. I paid $170 Canadian for it, there's a $10 mail in rebate but we'll see if I ever get the cheque. So far the card is working great, mostly been playing StarCraft 2 with it and I'm able to crank the settings.

Yes you can, just make sure to turn off the onboard GPU in the BIOS if it doesn't automatically do it when you install the card. The only thing that concerns me is; this is a retail PC, and as such their PSU's are just the bare minimum wattage to run just the retail installed hardware. Depending on what GPU you decide on, you'll need to find out what the minimum wattage PSU is needed to run the GPU along with what type of power connections. With out knowing the size of your PSU, that bit of info in your system specs is not listed, but I'm guessing it's a stock PSU. I'm almost positive you'll have to upgrade that as well.

Any discrete GPU, even from the same series as integrated is better. You picked a fine card for it but do check that PSU of yours and it's make and ratings on the +12v branch. A new and strong GPU could "pull" more power than the rest of the system. 500 wats on a cheap PSU are not the same as on a for instance a Seasonic PSU or some high end make.

For Minecraft a 15$-20$ GT520 or HD5450 would be fine if not 1080p but you should give a price range for more accurate recommendations.
