When I try to change my video adapter the only option I get is Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.

I have a Nvidia Geforce Go 7400

Specs:
Operating System: Windows 8 Pro 32-bit
System Manufacturer: Dell Inc.
System Model: Latitude D820
BIOS: Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A10
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T7400 @ 2.16GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.2GHz

You may need to use drivers from Dell, if they've customized the device ID of the graphics adapter.

Unfortunately, the latest drivers offered at support.dell.com are for Vista. They may be worth a try. (Win8 is supposed to be able to use WDDM 1.0 drivers.) Try the installation troubleshooting compatibility mode if they won't install by themselves.

What do you mean by "When I try to change my video adapter" ? where do you try to change it ? why ? You can try to install windows 7 drivers, cause there is no win8 drivers for such an old notebook video adapter - NVIDIA DRIVERS 179.48BETA
