Hi I'm new to the forum but you seem to be having an issue with drivers. I'm running Windows 8 Pro 64 and recently upgraded my graphics to a Asus Matrix 7970. On COD Blop2 I got the occassional game with dodgy graphics but Ok if chnaged server/game. then recently I started to get checkerboard glitches on main (old windows 7 main screen) and then the "stopped responding and has succesfully recovered" message folowed by the black screen which is only recoverable by reinstall of Windows 8 and loss of some programmes (Steam, Word, Adobe Photoshop etc), I have tried the Windows 8 help desk but all they suggested was a full virus scan. I have Reloaded software, drivers, checked HDD (WD velociraptor 600 Gb, + 2 x 1TB ).

I'm running catalyst and have the latest driver (or so it tells me) so can anyone help with any ideas on what could cause this issue?

Hello Orpheus,

I haven't try that card on windows 8, but have had those issues with windows 7, please make sure that you are running the latest drivers 13.4 catalyst, coming out today, as well as the latest GPU-Tweak from Asus, you might also pay attention to the fan profile, I had my card running really hot at the beginning until I realized that the fan profile was not kicking in. also overclock.net is a good forum for videocard as well at the Asus ROG forum. finally have the card run at default voltage and speed, and see if you are getting errors, I get those checkerboard if my OC is not stable.

I have a 7950 and I used to have similar problems ("vídeo driver has stopped responding and has succesfully recovered") when it was overclocked @ 1100/6600/stock vcore. It's now pretty stable @ 1050/6400/1.25v with Catalyst 13.4 drivers.

yeah, the 7000 series cards, had a lot of issues with DX9 games due to drivers, it got fixed at 13.2 catalyst, however out of my own experience with the 7970 Matrix, is that it is very finicky on getting the right overclock per (game) I can push it to 1310mhz core and 7000mhz memory and do bench no problem, but in Tomb Raider I get flat out artifacts, dropping down memory to 6700mhz solves the issue, just keep that in mind, I though that my card was defective and was ready to RMA, but reading through a lot of forums and people with other 7000 series cards were having the same issues. usually stable for me is 1250mhz on core and 6700mhz on memory, although i can push it harder but I need to bench different games to make sure that the OC is worth it and would not crash my system with other games

Thanks Dark Wizard I have updated Catalyst and GPU tweak

Hello Orpheus,

The funny thing is I have the latest drivers etc and I'm not OC when this happens, recently playing BLO2 and CoH2 I get graphics tear. I have reinstalled programs etc.

I'm going to run fans manually and see if any change. When it has issues the led goes dark blue and intermitant no colour at all as if loss of power but led next to power all green. It's not as if I don't have enough power I'm running 1500 watt.

thanks for response
