My I7 dell uses switching graphics. I thought the same thing until Dell explained it to me. There should be an app or utility that will allow you to assign graphics. The reason is power consumption. For instance, to read a text document or shop on eBay, you don't need AMD graphics. If you are rendering HD video, you do. So Word gets assigned intel hd graphics and Adobe encoder cs6 gets assigned AMD. Find the utility by searching AMD or Intel in the charms. Select the option to assign each process. When you open and then close a program, let's say Word, it will ask you to assign the graphics card one time. After that Netflix worked on my windows 8 app, where as it wanted an update to intel HD graphics first.
