Cannot get my Radeon graphics card working

Since I installed Windows 8 my graphics card has not been working. I have a Radeon 7690M XT and windows automatically installed its own drivers for 6700M series. I went and downloaded this: AMD Catalyst and the catalyst control center installed but when I go back to "device manager" the drivers are still WDDM and the card still doesn't work. Anyone know a solution? thank you very much.

Hi, Don't know if I'm talking out of turn here but when I ordered a new Computer earlier this year it came with a Radeon Card 7700HD. In my opinion this was a mistake and should have stuck with Nvidia. At the time my OS was Windows 7 and my Reliability Monitor was having fits with 'close downs'. I sort advice and got this from one of the Forums (can't recall which)
"Radeon Graphics Card & questionable services.

Turn off CCC/AMD FUEL/External Events Utility
I don't know why people recommend NOT turning off these services and CCC, but I assure you, you won't be missing out on anything if you don't frequently access Catalyst Control Centre. Just type MSconfig, and disables these services and stop CCC from auto startup, and if you don't see any increase in boot up performance, you can always turn them back on

I just install the display driver via device manager, no CCC or other bullshit."

Well I did as was said and turned off the CCC etc via the 'msconfig' and only downloaded the driver for the Card. That fixed that.
When upgrading to W8 on the 25th Oct I used the new Task Manager to turn off the CCC services and continue to only install Card driver and so far all systems go.
I know I had none of this problem with Nvidia.
Hope this is of some help.
Regards.
Yorky.

AMD/ATI driver support for their cards is poor at best. Try and find Windows 8 drivers and you'll find there is nothing for "older" cards. Mine is less than 3 years old and ATI has nothing for them. A couple of my Photoshop plugins would no longer work under Windows 8 because they require OpenGL 2.0 and ATI has no plans to provide drivers for this, at least for my card. I switched to an Nvidia card. Avoid ATI and stick with Nvidia.

How do I install the driver without CCC?
How do I install the driver without CCC?
Download the driver you need for your card, open device manager ("quickest way to open Device Manager is via its shortcut on the Power User Menu, accessible by pressing the WIN and X keys together."), click the arrow next to display adaptors, right click your gfx card and selct "update driver software", then browse to where you stored the driver.

I had problems with CCC as well and I just ignore it all together. ATI seems to have no plan to update the driver for my 4350, I will say the driver that windows installed works great for me though. I will say as well that when it's time to upgrade, Nvidia all the way for me!!!

Geeve

Edit: when you double click the ccc you downloaded pay attention to where it is extracting the files, this is where you want to locate the actual driver. I know for me the CCC install would fail, but the driver was in C:/ATI or something like that.....

Thanks. I know that much. But I am just wondering where to get the actual driver at? If you download the file from the AMD website you get a .exe file that installs the drivers and CCC automaticlly. Where do I get a plain driver file?

What system specs do you need to know? I have Win 8 Pro 64bit and my card is Radeon 7690M XT

hmm that didn't seem to work. When I scanned the AMD folder for drivers, a new one was installed. But when I restart my computer my graphics card still gets disconnected because it isn't "working properly". Damn.

Just a suggestion, try the forceware drivers found here TWeaKFoRCe.CoM your source for the latest Video Drivers they cover a greater range so might do the job I've never had a Ati card so don't what the deal is,
but I have always used there drivers on my Nvidia card for many years now.
Just remember to completely uninstall any old driver to save confliction.
