Uncontestable proof that "Metro" is touch only

No right click context menu. We can now quit arguing that "Metro" works well on desktops too, or mentioning its merits. Metro is touch only, sucks with the mouse, and metro style apps will never be as good as desktop ones (for mouse). Yes, using Metro with mouse is possible, but it's clearly a poorly done, second class experience.

Right, "UNCONTESTABLE" proof!!!!!!
How right you are!!! Each and every word!!! Just wondering if it is worth the Nobel Prize!!!

Are you sure you started this thread in right state of mind??

Gee, I must be doing something wrong. When I click on ANY tile with my mouse it works just fine. Don't need no touch screen.

It's not uncontestable and you have no proof!
Were you expecting any disagreement? It totally works on my desktop and my desktop is not mobile. I love the "Store Front" and commercial enterprise of the metro. It adds some sparkle and broadens the horizon of the computing world. The mouse works effortlessly here. Flex tiles are magical in their design. 8 is the most mouse friendly OS ever. I do not use touch, except maybe for a logitech touchpad keyboard. Right click bottom left or right click for all apps, edge UI, thumbnail snapping... opinions vary... I like the concept of profit... MS "build" is just getting underway for app development. Productivity is in the eye of the beholder.

Um... Context menus....
When you right click something in desktop, a menu pops up near the mouse cursor. Then you can click on an option without moving the mouse very far. I'm sure you've heard of the feature.

Right click things in metro apps-opens app bar on the bottom of the screen.

Do you know why context menus open near the mouse cursor? Because they're easier to click that way. The bottom of screen app-bar is worse for the mouse, and there is absolutely no way you can argue otherwise.

To a new visitor:
Windows 8 is an integrated system that combines 2 distinct platforms to perform various tasks. The start screen is not the desktop. In this version of Windows, one must go to the desktop. The desktop is normal when one gets to it. If the lack of a start "menu" detracts from the "normal desktop" use, then one can install a button menu in one form or another. If the start screen is too complex for the average user, then one may require assistance. 8 is much more than a normal desktop. It is a production device and a portal to online services. The online services are optional and the desktop is readily available with the applicable context services.

No argument from me. Just stating fact. I asked you to explain your OP more clearly. You answered. Fact -> The context menu still remains even though it's a little farther away. Depending on where one right clicks on the Start Screen, we now have to move the cursor a little more distance. Is that really a big deal compared to all of the other world problems?

Yes, in fact, it is. Isn't the amount of mouse movement needed one of the most important aspects of UX design? How else do you measure UI useability if not by the amount of action required to get something done.

Curious: What is your point of view on the "start screen is not the desktop"?
Do you believe the "start screen is the desktop"?
I am guessing you do not think the desktop is an app...or a separate UI.

Agreed, it is just a little, may be, negligible extra mouse movement, but that certainly doesn't mean:
Metro is touch only, sucks with the mouse
And what has made you conclude that:
and good productivity apps will never be written in metro style.
 This statement of yours has absolutely no relation with any of your previous lines.

Well, that's a matter of the exact therm "context menu." It's really just hacking in basic mouse usability into a system that was designed with only touch in mind.

No. The Start Screen is exactly what they named it -> Start Screen. PPark's sig explains it best. Two UIs. The desktop is the same old desktop without the Start Menu, which is replaced by what? -> The Start Screen. The desktop now gets treated like an app so far as reference, just as you explained. Notice I stated "like an app", not "is an app" -> A separate UI.

Alright. I guess my last statement was poorly written. What I meant was that Metro apps will never gain equivalent usability or productivity to their desktop equivalents, especially when using mouse. They will always be worse for mouse users.

It would appear that there are beta testers here that do not understand the design, implementation, and concept of the benefits and utility of Windows 8 and continue to compare and contrast it to legacy versions of Windows.

Not you HG, or Arpan
