RTM is showing several bugs and tuning problems on the desktop already (To be expected actually, though some are kind of disturbing). Rather than have a huge number of updates on launch, I can see them cutting newer RTM builds as long as time hasn't run out...

Another post-RTM build number for Windows 8 revealed? - Neowin

This one is a weird one gang! :D It appears there is a new build version of 9200.20500 and not 9200.16384.

Either it's a big update on day one or it is Windows 9 or Windows 8.5 or Windows Blue?!?!

hopefully and option of aero,

Yes and also hopefully an option of start button and "boot directly to the desktop".

It's normal practice guys, they will issue new build number with every bug fix that's added to the RTM build, the type of fixes that are released as updates through normal channels, it's also usual practice to save one "round" number build some way up the counter to use for the actual Gold release version due in October :D

lol. I used to joke that OEMS would insert some sort of start menu bloatware. I guess I wasn't really wrong.

It's interesting that Samsung has done that. First off, I'll say that's a tad absurd on their behalf as to me, THAT there makes the Desktop feel more like an app. It doesn't when you use the Start Screen AROUND the Desktop, but to do that, yoy!

Maybe more effort should had been spent on making bloatware to educate the user on how to use Windows 8... :p

I've noticed a bug that has been prevalent in IE 10 Desktop that has been around since the Developer Preview. When you have multiple tabs, usually two or thee when I've seen it happen the most, when you close the outermost tab the remaining ones elongate out. So the size of three tabs stays the same but two tabs occupy that space, then it goes back to normal. To me, that's a showstopper bug that should had been fixed BEFORE the RTM build was signed off on.

I'm betting that this is a day one patch of tedious bugs. It seems Microsoft pulled a little vista, get it coded and stable to use and ship it out, we'll fix it later with two service packs. Except this time it's more ship it out to the OEMs so they have a good month to get their new PCs ready. I've done a bit of investigating. The final official RTM release has a date stamp of around July 25, 26. THIS new info has the it as August 22nd, about a good month.

Although I have a few irks though....

In Microsoft's MSDN blog about the new Desktop, they have said that the DEFAULT window chrome color is white, to create an "airy, premium" feel. It is not in the actual thing.....

I know Chrome does a similar thing, and it isn't something that will affect the user, in fact it may help the user when trying to close all tabs other than one. As for bugs in the OS itself, I found that if I turn my touchpad off then back on, then touch the touchpad, the cursor goes everywhere and clicks a few hundred things that open new windows, and sometimes manages to terminate loads of services and crash the system. Yes I'm using W8's driver, the only driver non-Microsoft is my GPU's driver. I wish their drivers were better.

For what it's worth, that build number simply looks like a (very close to RTM) LDR version of the kernel. This conversation is interesting, but to be on topic with post #1, the build number is not ;).

That's quite observant of you, Cokie, but I don't think it's a bug. I thinks designed that way. I'm viewing on desktop IE now. If you keep opening the tabs along the bar, even past filling it up, the tabs keep getting smaller. And like you stated, as you close them out, they elongate so that the closeout x remains in the same place. That way one needn't keep moving the mouse pointer over to close tabs, just click. The first tab will not snap back until you move the mouse pointer off of it. The "new tab" button travels with it.

Try it. It's quite nifty.

Oooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...........

I get it now. :) I guess I wasn't closing tabs fast enough to really notice it's more of a feature than an actual glitch.

I have noticed another issue, if you're an overclocker, (it could just be my motherboard) but Windows doesn't seem to actually notice the new CPU speed when it's been overclocked. I remember before in the Developer Preview it did show it in Task Manager under the Performance tab in the CPU section where it says the maximum speed. But afterwards, it's more like if you didn't install Windows 8 on overclocked settings, I guess it doesn't recognize the overclocked maximum speed. Which kind of sucks because I'd like to see what my processor speed is. I can't do it in Task Manger nor in System Properties.

Ohhhh, Desktop IE...I thought it was in Metro IE. I agree HippsieGypsie, those closeout x's just fall to conveniently at the same place to be a bug.

Hi there
I'm not sure whether this is a bad or good thing.

Samsung are usually pretty good at Engineering (and they are improving their Court tactics too -- Japan threw out the case Apple won in a California Court - so at the moment it's a "Score Draw" at 1 - 1) so i'd imagine it won't change W8's standard functionality if users don't want the Samsung Mod.

If it's software and not dependent on a call to the Samsung Firmware of some device in the PC - people are getting away more and more from using the traditional BIOS - it will inevitably appear as a patch on the Internet.

However after a bit of learning and re-arranging the new Start screen isn't actually a bad way of working.

(Now if only the tiles could be made more customisable for standard (non metro) apps -- and PLEASE with larger text -- I'm not of a generation used to spending hours looking at tiny mobile phone screens so a decent laptop must seem to a lot of people like a HUGE piece of screen real estate).

Cheers
jimbo
